    Need some motivation in life

Hey everyone, Im sorry if this seems like a sob story but have nowhere else to turn.

Up until last year I had a full time job, a house with the then current girlfriend, a yard, a dog.... You know, the American dream.

Well last year I lost my job and got on the unemployment band wagon. I struggled each month to make sure my bills were paid but fell behind. The girlfriend and I separated on good terms due to both of us making a mistake or two on the other. We are still talking and go out on dates so thats one good thing in my life.

I scrap on the side to help with cash as unemployment doesnt even pay me half of what I was making. Ive been looking for another job but no dice. Ive made a single mistake in my past which bars me from most jobs due to a background check. I was even denied at wendys.... I wake up each day thinking to myself that this will be how my life will be until the day I die.

I try my hardest to make an honest buck and have the support of my family, including my grandmother who lets me stay at her nice house until I get myself out of this slump. Im just not sure if I will be able too. Unemployment runs out in December, scrapping cash I make isnt much due to me scrapping out of my car, I see myself as a hands on guy and can figure things out easy, but not being able to get a regular job and all the other unemployed taking any sidework available just leaves me feeling depressed....

Not sure if it is just Illinois, myself, or just the economy to blame or all of the above.

Sorry about the rant, I just had to type it somewhere....

I'd say "all the Above" Andrew. There are a number of current affairs productions on PBS(my only two stations) and a very recent one, I don't recall which one, who, or exactly when, as recent Friday, they were discussing this very subject, and the future jobs outlook. I don't recall much of it, but this one part, that in the immediate future, a person wanting a job might have to "invent one". Exactly what they meant by that, or how to possibly achieve it, I don't know. Sorry I couldn't be of more help with that.
Don't lose faith, and please don't let yourself start getting depressed, that is a deep chasm to fall into, and the mind does have some control over it, so please don't sink, keep swimmin
You certainly have my best wishes man. Good luck! : )

"all the above", excepting yourself, this economy and job situation is certainly not your fault

A good friend of mine had made a mistake and the only job he could find after a lot of looking was in a duck processing plant.
He worked overtime every time they asked, and it was halfway nasty working there but he hung in cause that was the only way he could pay his probation fee's. Now after being there for over two years he finally found a place (making laminate counter tops) that would hire him based on his good work record, and this place is working 6 and 7 days a week. A big step up for him but he spent two years in he** to get there. He didn't give up cause he could not or he'd go back to jail. Hang in there, nobody said it would be easy,,,,

I use to live in IL. I no longer.. due to high prices,, like gas, tags for vehicle, property tax, and the list goes on.. its tough there, Thats why I moved to sioux falls, its a great place. NO state income tax.. that is nice.. sales tax is at 6percent, the cost of living is low.. and the jobs here are great...

Its tough out there... and I feel for You.. I use to live in Lombard, Villa Park, and Carol Stream, and its not easy.. You just got to stay focus on the postive things in life... I'm strugglin.. not due to jobs but due to health.. Im lookin at having heart surgery.. will know more on june fifth.. sometimes, I just blow up.. its only because I'm stressed out.. but.. One thing,, I step back and say.. yah know.. what ever it is.. it's.. I'll move past it, because it may not come to you this week.. or the next week.. but it will come to your blessing in the future one way or another..

so Just keep your faith.. and your chin up.. Someone is watching You and he or she won't let you fail. You've a wife.. I see.. seek a healthy conversation, with either her, or if you've a pastor.. seek one out.. and before You know it, You'll be back in the postive swing..

Wish You luck.. and Prayers are being said.. for You... by Me..

    God Bless.

I hope things take a turn for the better for you soon. Keep your head up and keep plugging away and as stated above maybe look to move to a state that promotes capitalism.

Ive made plenty of "mistakes" that have ended up with me having a very.. colorful background check. But those were the choices I made living on the end of a needle and just being a dumb kid.

Now I have almost three years clean, 2 kids a full time job a woman who loves me and I see the world and myself in a totally different light.

I have found that its very easy to get down and out about myself and the situation I am in and focus on that instead of doing something about it. Just remember that the only way to move forward is to live in the solution and not the problem. It might not be my fault I am down, but it is my responsibility to get back up.

Hey. Are you listening to me? YOU CAN DO THIS BRO!!!!! Your gma cares about you. Your girl cares about you. Heck just look at the response you are getting from strangers on an internet forum. Even we care about you and know that you can do this a!!

Hey even if you're going two feet forward you're going forward.

    Good Luck bro!!!

Just my two cents but quit whining its hard out here for a lot of us but the complaint dept is closed.
Why don't you just give up and be a bum
You still would end up collecting cans.
I've made a couple mistakes in my past never held me back

    Never quit
    Never back down

One thing I know about being at the bottom of the barrel of life is that there is nowhere to go but up.
Unfortunately all there is to see when you look up are all the a$$holes and elbows in the way.
You have to suck it up and work around them to make things better for you and yours without compromising integrity.
    By the way.
You ain't alone, just look around and you will see that there are always a lot of people in much worse shape than you.
I have given away my last dollar more times than I can count because I felt it would do someone else more good than me.........I was wrong.......it made me feel as good as it did them.
A little humility goes a long way.

    Sir,

The greatest advice I ever received was the following, “if you don't work hard now, you WILL work hard for the rest of your life”. My advice is simple, wake up earlier, go to bed latter, live on less, cut bad habits and bad connections and finally forget applications and resumes. Start shaking hands and helping others. If need be, grab a lawn mower and a broom and walk house to house in your neighborhood telling them your happy to help with anything they need help with.

Several times over the years, I've told myself "Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. If I give up now, everything I've done to this point was for nothing." It worked and I'm pretty well off now.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys. Was just having an extremely bad day yesterday. Decided I may go volunteer at a local charity thrift shop. Even if nothing happens, I can at least help out some people in need.

Keep your head up bro, believe me, been there done that. I've been down and out before and it sucks, but only you can make it better. On the brighter side, no offense at all intended, if your at rock bottom the only place you got to go is up. It may be corny but often was a thought for me, to keep going and do all I was able to. Good luck to you and hope it gets easier for ya !

The others all had good advice. Now I give you more words of inspiration..( You all knew I would, don't lie )

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. - Robert Louis Stevenson

Oh I got more, but that'll do for now.

Good luck an hope things turn around soon for you.

The best motivation ive found is setting goals.

If your looking for work you should try the dakotas, its a boom up there right now. Ive heard there is plentiful work that pays well. Especially if you have skills that are in demand, like driving, operating equipment, welding and so on. But even basic laborers get paid well also.

I am a boilermaker by trade so i have alot of experience with blueprints, layout, welding, rigging and mechanical work.

The economy is to blame, the recovery were in right now is fake and everyone knows it. The fundamentals for the stock market to be at 15k do not exist.
