    Saturday's call

So, I had a quick pickup to do on Saturday, even though I dont work weekends. Anyway, I left my cell at home, since it was dead to charge.

I get home, and my wife said someone called and left me a VM. Some guy from PA I believe it was, telling me he said several 40 something foot trailers he wanted to scrap out. Not really my thing...

So, I go to call him back 5 times, and each time, it tells me the number is no longer in service.

I am like WTF, he called me 2 hours ago from the number, but now it is not in service.

I found it funny. Sounded like he was from a BIG company, but I guess one that was going out of business lol

    Agreed.

I take time off here and there, but basically if I'm awake, I'm working. Unless I'm doing some planned family thing, I never say "I'm not working today". Never leave money on the table. Sure, it's a grind, but you have to make hay while the sun is shining.

I do tell people I don't work on Sundays, because I don't kow about you guys but I need one day a week.

If they insist on Sunday I charge double and tell them so. They usually find they can wait until Monday morning.

Of course, since nobody on here likes to charge anything for their work I guess this really doesn't apply.

    Please disregard this post.

    That's Funny!

    I do the same thing
Once I am on the sofa and my boots are off and people call with a vehicle they want removed RIGHT NOW
I double the price because I have to put my boots back on
    BUT
as you mentioned >> If they are OK with paying double >> I am OK putting the work boots back on

I also would like to know what the deal is with that
Happens to me several times a week.
Not a number they leave in a message but a number on my call log from an hour ago
try to return the call and get the >> number is no longer in service message

I work hard M-F and the weekends are for my family. I will occasionally take a job on a weekend depending on what it is, but never had a complaint yet.

Sure, I might loose a little busy to the competitors, but when I get to charge much less than them, then customers are cool to wait.

Will he left me the same number that was on the call log. Lots of times I will get clients calling from work and leave me their cell numbers.

Not a total loss, since I couldn't do the job anyway, but kind of puzzling to say the least lol

I agree, people are at home on the weekends, I also get a car or two a week after 6:00, its covered in burlys thread that we have different kinds of businesses, most of my calls come in off hours, I take care of my regulars during the day but individuals I take care of whenever they need me or as soon as our schedules will allow whether that be at 8 at night or on fathers day. we all do what we do for various reasons, ive got days I take it easy if I can but if the phone rings im out the door. i will say my situation is different as i will only buy the cars on the weekends and sometimes i will prep one on sunday night. average time to go pick up a car and bring it home is probably an hour, where as if you guys do a junk removal it could take a day or more and may take some planning. small change for most of you but ive sold several used tires and batteries on the weekends also. sorry for the highjack

Car charger for cell. Screen calls. Keep on mute when with family. Different situation here though. I have worked a rotating schedule for the last 20 years you end up with every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday off. Days all seem the same now no matter what they are called. My last 2 good pick ups where on Sundays. Sometimes they will call back. Number not available when you call back would bug the crap out of me.

Money isnt everything to me. Never has been, never will be. My family is what is most important. If business fails, I can always start a new one, but I cant as easily start a new family.

I have have a few friends who work practically 24 hours a day almost, and miss out on their kids's life, and I refuse to let that happen with my kids.

I go to to school performances, cheerleading, birthday parties, you name it, and 99% of the time, I am there.

Also, as I mentioned, I will make the occasional pickup on a weekend, depending on where it is, and what needs to be hauled off, and I do charge more for it. Like Burly and others have said, if they are willing to pay, I am willing to oblige.
