    Nerve of this ebay buyer!

    Woke up this morning to a message from an ebay buyer, almost a week or 2 AFTER he leaves me positive feedback about the item.

    Here is what he has to say

    The CPU in your NB is only a Samperon 2.0GHZ one while your listing showed it to be a 2.2GHZ unit. The 2.2GHz ones a bit more valuable than the 2.0GHz ones, which you can check by doing an Ebay surch for AMD 2.2 (AMD ML-40), and 2.0 (AMD ML-37) CPUS with 754 Sockets.
    He is basically bi****** that he was hoping for a more expensive CPU chip, and didn't get it.

    I honestly have no idea if had in it what he was hoping for, or if it had the lesser one in it. For all I know, he could easily switched them out, etc.

    It's been 10 days since the listing ended, and shipped. Something seriously tell me he swiped them.

    Then he wants to know what I suggest we do to correct this issue.

    First of all, when I researched this laptop, I used the exact information from another one 100% just like it,

    In the listing, I clearly state it is as is for parts only.

    I am starting to see and understand why most of you are fed up with ebay buyers. They think they can get good quality merchandise like laptops, for $10 **** dollars.

    The other ebay buyer, that opened a claim for the other laptop, claiming stuff was missing, said he would take 1 of the 2 options I provided. Told him, just let me know which one. Been almost 2 weeks and still nothing from him again. Ebay told me that the case can be opened for up to 45 days, and then they will close it out.

    What would you all do in this situation. He has had it for at least 1 1/2 weeks, but more importantly, he left the positive feedback already, and said this:

    Hi GeorgeB!

    Did you have photos of the exact item you sold him? It's always good to go back to those as a reference to make sure that you did in fact ship him the correct item. Do you have multiples of this item and by chance it got mixed in the bunch? What I would offer him is a full refund, minus the shipping costs if it was included in the price, for the product once he returns the item to you and you deem it in the same condition you sent it in. We operate an eBay store and encounter these things a lot and if the person is making up a story, they usually do not respond to the message of having them ship it back to you.

    In the future I would give only maker name and model number on the computer, don't give them any other info.

    What I would do is stop selling laptops on ebay and start selling them to a buyer on this site by the pound. Then I would look into selling other things that have less "noise" associated with them. The constant he said, she said is costing you time and time = money. How many issues are you going to put up with before you change your business plan.

    I sell on ebay. It's a great tool. It's also full of scammers, sharks, and scumbags. Knowing that I try to minimize my risk as much as possible. I take less money for certain items by selling them thru other avenues because I know jumping into certain parts of the ebay ocean is likely to get myself eaten. Even then problems happen.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of EBAY..........Its all about volume...........Probably 90% of your transactions will be fine and make up for the other 10% that are not............I have two ebay accounts with over 330 positive feedback and I have had to eat transactions several times.........That George is the cost of doing biz

    Offer him the difference between the 2.0 and the 2.2. Take photos of barcodes and serials numbers. Close any "loopholes" in your listings. One word can cost you a return. In my case one single letter when describing case size cost me about $25. Be meticulous, be thorough and after all of that you will still get a return every now and then. My returns are about 5% sometimes you cant avoid it. Even after all the bleeping fees I do wayyy better than not using ebay at all. The prices people pay are leaps and bounds higher than what I can find local for items that would be considered scrap to most. Good Luck!

    First, check all your pictures for identifying info such as make/model/spec etc and do a quick google to see what specs the laptop YOU had, had. After confirming the specs, if it couldn't have had the lesser processor, provide the info to the buyer. If it could, apologize for the mistake on the parts laptop and offer a refund with return (if I think a claim may be bogus, I ONLY offer return and refund). If he wants it, he won't return it.

    In the future, don't use someone else's product info as your own (they could be wrong too). Know and describe what you have. Use other listings to give you an idea of what you have if you don't know, but always describe your particular item. Take lots of pictures. This helps "describe" the product to potential buyers, and helps you if you get a return that was tampered with or otherwise not in the same condition as when you sent it. For me, old and parts electronics aren't worth the hassle to sell on ebay, because I put a lot of time into researching what I have, documenting, and listing...a $10 or $20 parts machine isn't worth the involvement.

    If you don't want to take the time for such items, describe the item you have to sell, including the info written, stamped, or stickered on the item and some pictures. If you can't verify some information (such as processor) with the info on your item, say so in the description. Quick and easy, and the burden is on the buyer. You will get the occasional return or have to make an occasional refund, but if you do enough volume (and it doesn't take much), then you'll stay on the upside.

    Yes, I took photos. However, all laptops i get, very rare do they ever have a power cord. My knowledge on pc's is good, but when it comes to telling you specs, etc not 100% just yet.

    Therefore, I dont open the laptops up in the back, except to check for ram and hard drives.

    I feel like telling him to piss off, but I will offer him to return the laptop and refund his monies minus shipping.

    Yeah, I believe that is what I will do for sure. That or take the serial number, and go on Google and pull up the exact specs myself, if i can find them.

    Even though ebay does have its jerks, so does the real world. I havent met a buyer yet, except for one who pays more than $2 or $3 for a laptop, regardless of what you have. A buyer that I know that pays well, you need 150+ but with shipping, it wouldnt be worth it.

    I would set up another account, but I dont feel like setting up another paypal account and so forth.

    It was nothing I said in the ad, or pictures I took. i searched for the exact laptop that I found. Once i found it, i clicked the button that said "sell this item"

    Just a lesson learned.

    Only issue behind it all was that the CPU info in the listing wasnt the same apparently as the one in the laptop. Everything I said and did was the same. I am sure he bought the laptop just to resell the CPU I am quite sure. That was his whole point, was that the CPU he thought it had, was more valuable than mine. Didnt say nothing about it not working or anything else. jghilino at one point on here, was talking about the CPUs he had sold, and how most were selling for over $100.

    Thanks everyone for the reply. i guess I was really just venting..not sure why I asked what you would do.

    Just ticks me off that almost 1 1.2 weeks after they get it, and already leave me positive feedback about the laptop, that they want to piss and moan about it.

    i will just offer him a refund if he returns the laptop in the condition it was sent to him in. I had lots of interest in that particular laptop, so i have no worries that i can resell it again.

    You can use the same PayPal account on up to 7 eBay ID's
    All the information on another eBay account can be the same BUT email address
    Each eBay ID needs it's own eMail address

    I have one account for selling
    and 1 account for Buying and Posting
    You NEVER want to use the same ID for Buying and Selling >> Can lead to problems

    If selling anything as-is or for scrap, etc., there is a one-word rule of thumb to always follow: DISCLAIMERS!

    Every listing I have that is as-is, or scrap, or no returns, has a disclaimer in almost every sentence. Yes, I will lose some potential buyers because they just don't want to take a chance. But if the price is right the item will sell. In your case, I would have simply listed the item with the information off of the tags/labels and added photos of those labels, then state that you can not guarantee anything other than what the label says. Let the buyer research the information (in this case the specs on the computer) and purchase it based on his own research. Be clear that the buyer is getting it as-is with no warranties or returns.

    So many problems with buyers can be avoided by clearly communicating in the item description. If you don't know, then don't guess. Just spell it out in the listing that you are not familiar with the item to offer anything more than a basic description. I don't have many problems on ebay, and I attribute that to clearly stating what I know, or don't know, about a product. Luck has nothing to do with it.

    George do yourself a favor and invest $50 or so bucks and buy a universal charger. They will fit most laptops so you can at least power it up, get to the bios screen and take a picture of it. That way you can put a picture of what it has exactly inside with a picture of the laptop. You might even get a few more $$ for it if you show that it powers up and has a good screen.

    I enjoy your posts George but I think you have to start crossing your t's and dotting your i's a little better. Accuracy to detail is important when you want to make a sale. If you are selling as parts machines only try a computer repair shop, you may be surprised what you can get for them.

    Bought one once, for my wife's laptop. After the second time of using it, the thing burnt out.

    Just got off the phone with Ebay Customer Support. Explained the entire situation to them. How i searched, and listed. The buyers feedback and then email.

    The gentlemen put me on hold for around 10 minutes, while he spoke to his supervisor. While he was doing that, I googled the specs for the laptop, and it wouldn't even have a 2.2ghz CPU. Guess the guy i copied the add from, put in a 2.2ghz. Not like the buyer knew that i copied certain parts of the add of course.

    Anyway, ebay agreed with me that if he left me positive feedback, then that generally only happens after they inspect and test out the item to their satisfaction. The rep, Daniel told me, that the only thing he would say, is that if I wanted to keep the buyer happy for the future, Offer either a full refund, or $10 to $15 for the miss information.

    I asked Daniel if I would be required to refund the purchase plus shipping. He said, that was solely between the buyer and I. He said, that ebay's polices is that if you do a full refund, it is just the purchase price, minus shipping, unless me, as the seller decides to do shipping. Good thing, i no longer include the shipping costs.

    So, I emailed the buyer back, explained that i do recycling, how i go about listing items for sell, and that it was not my intent to deceive him. I also provided him the link to the specs page showing that the laptop, wouldnt have a 2.2ghz cpu chip, but only a 1.8ghz cpu chip.

    i informed him, that the seller i copied the ad from, must have put in a custom chip, since regular specs doesnt include one, but since it was in the listing, I would do a full refund, if he sent it back in the condition he received it in, minus shipping charges.

    I also provided him the ticket number for the ebay call.

    We will see how it goes.

    If you use the same ID for Posting, and post something that someone objects to >> They can buy an item just to leave you a NEG and mess with your selling ID

    Any Feed Back left by the Buyer would have no impact on a PayPal or eBay claim

    The Buyer has 45 days from payment date to open a claim
    In this case it would be a SNAD claim
    Significantly Not As Described
    Ad indicated 2.2 but unit only had 2.0
    Buyer would have to foot the bill for the return shipping
    Then Buyer would get a FULL refund
    Item price + what they paid for the original shipping & handling
    Refund would be withdrawn from your Selling account once the Buyers DC showed delivery had been attempted

    Never copy somebody elses advertising/listing. If you want more then scrap use ebay using precise details you have verified and expect to have a small percentage of complaints. Ebay is like scrapping, you deal in volume to make money.

    Many people buy junk laptops on ebay looking for specific parts to fix other machines, saying it has a 2.2ghz processor and the buyer finding out it has a 2.0ghz processor might sound like not a big deal to you, but it is to the buyer. How would you like it if I sold you a block of aluminum and you found a big ball of lead in the middle of it? I mean it is mostly aluminum why would you complain?

    So, I replied to the guy, and said my peace on the matter and this is what he replied with:
    I now understand your situation on this dv8000.

    HP made about 40+ different models of the DV8000 series. Yours was an EZ581UAD, i.e. a DV8301 model (see HP's specs for it at

    HP Pavilion dv8301nr Media Center Notebook PC - Product Specifications - c00678224 - HP Business Support Center )

    And HP did make some Dv8000 models with the AMD 2.2 GHz CPUs, i.e no one had to install a CPU upgrade to get the 2.2GHz CPU. (I have bought, repaired when possible, and sold almost 50 DV8000s, so I'm very familiar with all of the various models.)

    You may want to consider looking a little deeper into the product PNs to increase the accuracy of your listings.

    And FWIW, I think if I went to the TROUBLE of filing a complaint due to the listing error, Ebay/PayPal would credit me for both the purchas price and the shipping.

    However, even though I could do that, I won't.

    I'll keep the NB as it seems to boot; the cosmetics that need to be fixed can easily be done when I disassemble the NB to fix it; and it's not worth the hassel of iling a complaint, repacking, and shipping it.

    Bottom line; I'll keep it and give you positive feedback.

    The link he provided me was for a 8301, which is not what he bought. It was an 8000, because that is how I looked it up.

    Bottom line is, I did my due diligence, contacted ebay to see what they had to say, took their advice, and then this guy realized I wasn't going to merely roll over and refund him, his money and let him keep my laptop.

    Like I said, no one is going to screw me if I can help it.
