Phone Scam to fix the M$ Windows on your computer

Man, this is such an obvious scam, I don't know how they'd snag a hit on anybody.
A guy calls me while ago, claiming to be working for E Technical something or other ( I had to ask several times, while trying to hear through his accent). He was saying something was downloading onto the hard drive of my computer, something malicious, it was so hard to understand him, I had to ask everything he said at least two or three times. He said they were calling EVERYBODY who uses Windows operating system. I saw an easy out and told him I don't even use that stuff ; )
Wished I had gone along a little farther, to see what they were trying to sell, or what info they were trying to get. ANYTIME Windows has a flaw, or a problem, you will either (1) hear about it on the news (2) Get an automatic Windows Update, FROM Microsoft, TO your computer, or (3) not really sure what 3 is, haha, get a message from em somehow ; )

Those scams work because people lack common sense. The same way the ones work that claim your uncle in Nigeria died an left you $10,000,000 an if you send them 500 they'll get you the money faster. People looking for easy money, or no common sense, fall for these things daily. The people who run these scams prey on the elderly ( Most aren't tech savvy to know better), or those looking for an easy pay day, or easy way out of things.

The scammers are parasites and all should be lined up, castrated, stabbed with rusty nails an then shot. They are low life scum, on the level of meth/crack dealers, an I have no use, time, or sympathy for them. Yea I'm a cold hearted bastard when it comes to scamming people out of their money.

May the guy who called you find his head forcibly shoved up his you know what. /end rant

ROFL... I got the same phone call a couple weeks back. I just kept asking questions and puttering with him for about 30 minutes. Before I told him.. "Oh crap!! I only run Linux operating systems.. I don't even have a Windows PC, sorry 'bout dat "....

It's a scam.. I've had several customers of Mine call my store asking about it, one actaully let the person into his computer without asking Me about it, basically .. the guy on the phone says he a tech from microsoft and his computer was sending out mesg saying microsoft needs to take care of this, and what They did.. was lower all setting on firewall to zip o.. disable defender and all protection, and on top of that dropped a back door trojan access, and keylogger.. He called Me while they were on the computer and I infomred him to pull the ether net calbe and if they call.. back.. inform them that they are being recorded.. that will get them to hang up.. so got him all fixed back up..

BOTTOM LINE... DON"T LET ANYONE INTO YOUR COMPUTER YOU DON"T KNOW WHO THEY ARE>> EVEN MICROSTINKS>

I got one of these calls a couple months ago. I kind of went along with it for a few minutes and then told him to F**k off and that we don't fall for scams and hung up. They've never called back. lol

A few years back our family decided to rent a beach house in florida for 2 weeks over christmas. My uncle was setting it all up. Went to a travel company to see about getting a rental house, and they directed him to this one company that listed houses for rent. So we found a nice one, 5000 for 2 weeks for about 12 of us. Right on the ocean. Got pictures, address, everything. Spoke with people on the phone. Was totally legit.

So the day comes, we pack up and leave central Ontario for the long drive down. 2 days later, in Georgia, we get a call, "there was a child that drowned in the pool at the house you're renting, so you cannot stay there" we are thinking OH MY GOD. so terrible! Those poor people..

My dad senses something fishy. Calls fort lauderdale police and ask about he situation. They have no report of any drownings in the past week....

Try to call back, number is not in service. So we go to the address anyways. The house is there. But Nobodys living there. The address is one number off... The address we where givin was for the parking lot next door....

What really infuriated us was that the travel company gave us the website! And then gave us no compensation!

And they also informed us that another family had booked the same house, off the same site, for the same time period as us...

Was still a great vacation. We just found a great condo to rent instead. Was actually better than the house. But still sucked that our family got taken for 5 grand!
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

I hadn't either till it happened to us. And it happened to us and another family in Manitoba i believe all on the same day. Aol i think its pretty common too.

Even when i try to sell stuff on kijiji. I get emails "what is your last asking price? I look forward to your quickest reply so that we can set up a wire transfer " yaaaaa take off bud. But im sure they get alot of other people that just don't know.

I've read about that happening a lot. Pretty crappy, see my first post on what should be done to the scammer. I read about it a lot happening to folks moving into homes to rent, etc. Crazy.

An Bear..I DID have my filter on in that first post! I don't need a vacation!

I have lived in Florida for over fifty years, so I know a little about Florida. Here are a few tips for anyone that is thinking about coming to Florida for a vacation. These tips are for people that don't have family or friends down here. Be very careful, Florida is the scam capital of the country. It is cheaper on the west coast than the east coast. If your looking to just hang out on the beach for a week or two, anywhere on the west coast would be good but if you want to do other things then I would say Tampa Bay area would be your best bet. The best time to come would be October or November (before thanksgiving) or April and May (after easter ) these are the best months for good weather, worm, little rain and low humidity. It is also cheaper. Do not come in the winter, it is too expensive, do not come in the summer (too hot and humid) I would NOT rent a place without seeing it in person even if you have to stay in a motel for a night or two. You should be able to get a nice house or condo on the beach for a lot less than 2500.00 a week. If you can come in the months that are above you can negotiate a good rate because these are what are known as off months and people are looking for renters. There are a lot of things to do in the Tampa Bay area (ST. Petersburg- Clearwater) about 1 hour drive to Disney, the fishing is great, Pro sports (hockey, football, baseball) Anyone that would like more info just send me a PM.

I'm thankful when we come down there, we stay one of the wife's hotels. Discounted, which is nice, but don't have to worry about the rental scam angle. Happy gives excellent advice tho. Great tips, an right on the expense, season/off season info. I will say..it's cold at the end of Feb/March! **** wind follows me everywhere! Might just have to head further south an invade the treasure coast. You've been warned Parrothead!

An if your still worried..just skip FL an visit my sandbar. Cheaper, less people, an you get to see the traveling cooler if you ask nicely.

I can't really complain tho..we aim to make the trip down to Disney once a year. An we always have a good time.

    Sirscrapalot - Leaves his sandbar..sometimes.
