Old Byte magazines from the 80s

Now I officially feel old.

On the bright side lest I didn't grow up playing catch with Moses or there to see the parting of the Red Sea in person..unlike some of you oldies.

You know who you are!

this is why I wish I could travel back in time stocks and bets are one thing but I could have bought these computers at garage sales well still can here and there lol but collected them and saved them for 20yrs and retired having a multibillion dollar recycling company lol

Well mine are not still in the wrappers but I pick some of those up recently, I forget what years but it was volume 2 #1 to the volume 18 I think every copy.
I will post picks later of a computer sales catalog I picked up made me laugh I want to say it was from 1978 or 1979. Complete with prices LOL

I used to run across old Popular Mechanics, and some other mag,had a lot of old ham radio projects,they were always cool to look at, build your on transistor radio.dont find them much any more

A few weeks ago I scored a craigs list add - a pallet load of computers for $15. Turns out it was 4 servers, 2 mini computers, a monitor, 6 printers, a battery backup, and a box of cords and adapters. What's great is as I was loading up everything, I found a gem in the bottom.

Finding a computer that old is a great deal any day - but the original box! I had quite a laugh as I read it, and wrote up the listing. Enjoy the pictures! My favorite quote is "Runs at 4.77 or 10 MHz, giving you all the speed you can tackle even large programs with ease"

Also note, this sold for $30, doubling my money on just this one part of the lot. I might have made more scrapping the PC and selling the floppy drives separately, but I wanted the box to go with the computer. What's worse is I almost missed it - someone had a chance at the lot first, but was only willing to pay $5 for it. I knew in 2 seconds I would get my money back in this.

Always fun to take a trip back to the past and what they had to work with.

I once had someone tell me that many old magazines have value not in the complete pristine issue, but rather separated for the adds. That may work with these magazines as well. If you have one that is in bad shape, and find a decent shape add in it, especially like the one mentioned above, it may pay to cut it and frame it and try it on e-bay. I got a bunch of old Coca-Cola ads from the world war two years, came out of National Geographic, got some of them framed,old mens mags True,Outdoor Life,Fur Fish & Game,Field and Stream, got some good Remington and Winchester adds, Old Evenrude and Mercury outboard adds, they look good in the man cave.Some of my favorites are old Barbasol and Razor adds, Some cool old car ads in a lot of magazines. and old fishing tackle adds look real cool. good cheap way to decorate, or make a few bucks. Old railroad adds can bring in a few bucks,or make good cheap gifts if ya got someone who collects anything i mentioned, nice ad and a decent frame job, people really seem to appreciate ya taken the time to do it instead of just grabbing something off the shelf.Most of mine are just like diploma frames,put a nice matte in the background,they look great.Now with old appliances getting collectable the old kelvinator,whirpool adds would be cool.Some of my favorites are the old shoeshine supply adds,shoe polish,brushes. Old liquor adds look great around the bar.old fuller Brush adds. I like to look at all of them, just reminds ya when people built stuff to last.

I just can't believe what we used to pay for printers. If anything printers were probably the most expensive computer part around...

And now we pay NZ$89 for a whole printer/scanner/fax etc. WITH multi coloured printing ink!

Kiwi, you say a mouthful!! I paid 1200$ for my first HP colour inkjet!!!

We had a kodak,went to buy ink for it, it was cheaper to buy a whole new unit than replace the ink in it,which seems real crazy to me.

Reminds me of my first VCR, a Quasar $400 dollars, had to finance it at the bank,the last one i bought was $29 bucks.

Mine was a HIFI video for NZ$1200 in '88. I was earning NZ$190 a week..........

I remember seeing them for NZ$2000+ when they first came out, mono, cabled remote. The big VHS vs Beta debate.

I sometimes wonder how much time & effort has went into buying some of the stuff I scrap down just for a few $$.

Like WOW $50 scrap copper = $15,000 worth of TV.
