What's wrong with metal ? Is everybody throwing the old metal ones away and buying some "new/Improved!" plastic ones now? ; )
Do the legs stick out too far, are they hard to pack? Find some way to fold em up, maybe a couple long slim pipes you could fold the legs up fore ya load em ?

Repair if possible with new lights maybe a touch of j-b weld and a dab of paint and sell them for way more than scrap value. They generally sell really well.

Sirscrapalot - Hey admin..Scrap Christmas song parody contest maybe?
Those frames are usually in 3 or 4 pieces and are held together with zip ties. Bring some side cutters with you and they come apart easy.
When I find pre lit trees I just toss them in as I don't try and remove light strands anymore!
Got a Christmas tree sillouette yesterday. Absolutely loaded with light strands - can't even see the frame. I think judicious use of a sawsall along key joints might help this come apart a bit better.
With some work maybe sell a couple to a few hunters you know.....sorry couldn't resist
