What is your "Thanks per Post Average (TPA)" on this Forum?

How many "thanks" do you average for each post. Just divide your number of times you were "thanked" by your number of post you have made and you will get your "TPA"

    My TPA is 2.35

    How effective are your posts?

Your calculation is applying only to the "thanked posts". If you consider your total posts, it is ~0.59 thanks/post. I think that is a better evaluation of post effectiveness.

So you are saying more people thanked you for your posting wit.. than you give thanks to others?

I see people on here that have never given 1 thanks to anyone for anything.

I am not saying it but, I guess the data is saying it. Unfortunately this thread is bringing down my TPA.

ryanw, whoever would like to do a percentage instead, feel free to do so.

    Thanks for your interest everyone

I would think there are so many other issues in the world to worry about other than what your "TPA is". It is like the people I saw on other and less grown up forums that would post worthless one word replies on forums to up their post count. In the world today.. does any of that really have any bearing on anything? Do we all get to go to parties and tell our friends "Hey man I got over 800 posts on the SMF?" or "Man you should see my TPA!!"

Is the "Thanks" relevant. I think it is. I see quite a few people here that have been given great advice on something they asked a question on and don't hit "thanks" -- it takes a millisecond to do so. The post doesn't have to be this life altering post you are thanking someone for. It can be as simple as a "Nice Joke" or "Great response" I think it is a nice tool the admin implemented into the forum. It shows that you appreciate what others are offering to assist you, and in return you are appreciative of the information. It is a two way street. If you have a great post, and people appreciate what you have taken the time to post- they say "Hey.. thanks buddy for the information.. I found that helpful"

Well I guess I haven't paid much attention to my posts or thanks. I will click the thanks button when I see something I like but most of my time is spent reading.

Well, looks like I'm at just under 1.5 thanks for every post, and just over 2.5 thanks in each of my posts that have been thanked... FWIW.
I generally don't take the time to post stuff unless I really have something to say. Also, I confess I'm rather stingy with handing out thanks... not cuz I'm not grateful for all the info here, I just think it makes them more meaningful if you don't hand em out like wooden nickles.

Hitting the button is much easier then doing this, then having to go out to the scrap pile to get a different monitor.

I did not intend to offend or waste anyone's time with this silly thread. I did not expect anyone to take it serious. And yes there are many other issues to worry about other than TBA so, that is why I placed it in the "Off Topic Discussions" section and labeled the title "What is your "Thanks per Post Average (TPA)" on this Forum?". I feel everyone had fair warning that the post was not important.

Look through the "Off Topic Discussions" threads and you will find threads like "Pie testing", "What is your favorite music?", "Funny Craigslist AD", etc. All these threads I like and enjoy to read but, I know it may not be a serious thread.

And I agree with you on giving affirmation to people that have helped you on this site in some way.

I try to post or comment on topics that I have some knowledge about that may help the other members. I dont do it to receive " thanks" from anyone. I also try to hit the thanks button when I have read something that helps me out or gives me a good laugh. Never paid attention to my ratio of thanks. I would hope that everyone makes posts to help each other which the overwhelming majority do.
Since this was posted in the off topic area I dont think it was meant to demean or point fingers at anyone. It is was it is, just a discussion. If it was taken in any other way then I think some need to grow a thicker skin and worry about more important things going on in their lives.

it's not about thanks , wanting them or, getting them. its about us. me and others when I ask a question. you and others when I give an opinion on an answer to a question, as it should be.

The value of the info on the forum and the members here far beyond the thanks they may get.

I realize the OP mentioned his post was to been in a joking manner. They also made jokes about the space shuttle Challenger.
Fact is, I actually do believe, some would rather cut off their click finger than to scroll over there and click "thanks", and will go to great measures to avoid it. Although I find that rather comical at times, I also believe at the end of the day, what's most important was what you gave, and not just what you got.
There was a university study done not too long ago which documented the differences in obituaries over the last hundred years. They found a hundred years ago the obits mostly spoke of a mans character, the things he had contributed and the deeds he had done, where today they were found to mostly speak of a mans wealth and possessions.
There were also some worthy mentions, in another big book, of an extremely thankless generation, being near the end of our thankless road, and sometimes I wonder just how far away that day can actually be.
Although it is highly visible here, this certainly isn't restricted to SMF or the scrapping community, but goes the world over, and altho it's led mostly by the "developed" countries, if you look at the countries where there is little, and what little they had, has been taken away, such as the recent typhoon victims in the Philippines, and other places where both natural or manmade disasters have ravaged their lives and their world. They'd be thankful for the crumbs that fell from our plates, and that's even more reason to be thankful for what we have, and that we live in such a land as what we do, and not so worried about what's the score, or how much more can i get, before we reach the end of that road.
I truly do believe one day the more important question will be, not how much did you get, but instead, how much did you give.
