    12- 7- 41 Always Remember

To any who had family who served thank you, either at Pearl, or during the War to end all wars. They will not be forgotten nor will that day or era.

Unfortunately, Pearl Harbor is getting downplayed by the media in recent years. Afraid of offending the Japanese.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Being from Hawaii, it's a pretty big thing here. As far as offending the Japanese (I am half and there are many Japanese here in Hawaii), we understand what happened and many Japanese-Americans resent what the Japanese did (especially in China) so no offense is taken at all. Many of us, including myself, are descendants of members of the 442nd Infantry Regiment (two of my great uncles served on D-Day and later in Europe) and hold far greater allegiance with America than we do with Japan (and that was even the case back then when many Japanese here were already 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th generation Americans).

My grandparents would tell me stories about how they had to paint all the windows black (or else they wouldn't be able to use lights at night for fear Japanese bombers would see it). We haven't confirmed it but in the front of my grandfather's childhood home, there is supposed to be a filled in bomb shelter. And here on Oahu, it's pretty much a given that you are taken to the Arizona Memorial and USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor at least 3 times on field trips while you're in school.

Scrap808, my post certainly wasn't aimed people in your circumstance. I would consider you Hawaiian (then) or American (now). I'm supposedly of German descent but that sure doesn't make me feel any tie to Germany.
