I threw some rock salt down to get traction yesterday- today it has not melted the snow- instead- the Rock Salt has FROST on it! DAAAAAAMN!

Rock salt is only effective at temperatures 5-10 degrees above zero. Air temperature not a factor but the surface temp where it is spread. The frost is from the moisture it absorbed from the air.

Somehow I got the raw end of a deal with friends of mine that went down to Costa Rica last week (for 2 weeks), ... +27°C today when I checked, ...meanwhile -24°C here today not including any windchill.
Glad I ropped out some round bales yesterday tho, friggin windy today. but at least no pipes frozen in the barn today. was colder Friday and Saturday tho I think, ... had to deal with frozen pipes and alternate supply of water for the cows. Think the barn cats were whining more for water than food too, lol.

Good news, heat wave here. -3 outside and the windchill is only -23. Pulled out the shorts and dancing on the deck. Beverages are not freezing in two minutes anymore. Global warning at it's finest. Thanks Al.

"Tip of the ice berg". That's funny!
A good blast of cold air would make that thing look like a scared turtle.

Not the worst one I've seen but bad enough, 16.7" on top of 6" a couple of days earlier and the 14 -15 below had me crying uncle.

Hey Chris, IT WORKED!!! 40 here in NE Indiana today (Sunday) and the snow is melting. However, my brass monkey is now singing soprano 'cause I forgot to bring him in last week. -18 was recorded low a week ago along with 14" of snow and 25 mph winds. What a difference a week makes. Thanks for the thoughts. Vance
