I like that. He sounds like a No nonsense kinda guy!
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

No room for doubt about his meaning.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Actually it's HER meaning. Andrea's a tough one if you're messing up, but great to work with if you're an honest citizen.
Thats awesome
Jord.... No problem, I didn't realize the camera cut off the name at that exact spot. I do like the policy of the yard. They have been very helpful when I had some things stolen from my farm. We worked together and got some arrests made. Most of the time, the thieves didn't do much time, but it did slow them down.
I wish every yard had a sign up like this. I had a guy in front of me with a brass water meter he apparently he got from an abandoned house. Lucky for him the guy at the scale, who is a really nice guy, told him the yard would not take the meter and essentially it's illegal to bring them in unless there is some sort of proof they were legit. I guess from what I overheard someone he knows (a family member or friend perhaps) gave it to him. It's people like that who give scrappers who are legit a bad name.
I love it! If only every yard, core buyer and scrap dealer would crack down on all the lowlifes, we could pretty much eliminate scrap theft. I know, it's a nice thought
I've only ever had to turn away a few guys who either refused to provide ID, or refused to tell me where their material came from. The "policies" page on my business website has a nice, big WARNING TO THIEVES paragraph in bold, red print. Word gets around among the crooks and thieves, and they learn pretty quickly where they are not welcome.
Sadly, there are still too many buyers that will deal with these creeps and buy anything "off the books". It's pure greed, as they know they can buy the material cheap in exchange for keeping quiet. Plus, the better-known bad guys have already been banned from the reputable buyers, so a bad buyer knows that he may be the only one willing to deal with them.
Two thumbs up to Andrea, I like her no-nonsense way of making things clear.
I know that every yard I have ever been too has this policy.. written and printed or not (At least this is what they preach to be politically correct.) Yard owners know that if THEY knowingly buy stolen items- they themselves are also on the hook. Every yard owner I have ever met has that innate "six sense" to know what "just doesn't feel right" and with any business- they have the right to turn people away.
Sparrow is correct- there are still people/yards that take in items that they know to be questionable in order to "make the quick buck" my thoughts are- if they can sleep at night knowing they are contributing to the problem.. it is tough to stop that- unless there is much more enforcement of the laws.
I remember taking some things down to my core buyer one day. I finished my business and headed home. I pass 2 other core buyers on my way out of town. As I rounded the corner I saw a town police officer standing out there with a clipboard- counting, taking inventory- he was making his presence known.. full uniform, full marked police car parked very obviously. So at least I do see some spot checking being done. Maybe that will be a deterrent to any yards or buyers that knowingly look to take that quick buck?
This can be such a tough industry to compete in with the amount of thieves out there. I have worked to "plant seeds" in order to gain customers. A lot of them have already been burned and are VERY unwilling to even speak with you. I pulled into a body shop once. Guy was overflowing with vehicles that I know have sat for a LONG time. When I approached him about possible buying cars he went on this huge rant about how a guy screwed him over.. and "if anyone ever gets caught back there the local police and the county sheriff will be all over this place." I just thanked him for his time and moved along.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
indeed i love it people have been f-ing things up all over the place because of theft even last year they got caught easy selling it but they stole over 400 brass water *****ets from our state fair grounds
It's bad enough that the scrappers steal things but how about the scrap yard that steals stuff. one scrap yard that know of got caught stealing car batteries by the tractor trailer load. The owner and the ceo got 5 years in the fed. pen. Shortly after that the state of Florida passed a law that you have more than 2 batteries to sell you have to show proof of ownership.
Yes, people messing it up for everyone is very frustrating.
