    My dream purchase

There are so many threads on here anymore I'm gonna intro myself to all the new faces as all the old timers know me. I had been a full time scrapper for the last year hauling mainly cars but would dabble in about anything. I still haul a couple cars every now and then but I have a friend that got me on with a company that maintains cell tower back up power units.

This gets me to my dream purchase. Our trucks have to be 3/4 ton or larger, have to be diesel and have to be four wheel drive. On top of this we haul 200 gallons of diesel fuel to refuel generators, up to a dozen batteries, starters, radiators along with water pumps, block heaters, heater and radiator hoses battery terminals and cables. Then there's hose clamps ,zip ties, fuses and battery maintainers and lots of things im sure im missing. Also several gallons of oil and coolant, oil and air filters. In turn I also have to be able to store used oil and all the old parts that have been replaced above.

After this I still have all my tools and luggage enough for two weeks and sometimes more

Keep in mind this is a DREAM purchase but I am a motivated person, first I built a cummins on dodges website for a total of $58000 with no bed. The website below I looked at in the hotel for a few hours the other night. So many options and they build to order. There are other sites that build beds but this one blew me away.

Just a dream and I'm gonna keep on putting around the nation in my old 1ton, enough rambling here's the site

    Nothing a diesel can do that my V10 Gas can't do >> Also a 1 ton 4X4
And I don't have to plug my truck in when it gets cold

Looks like those beds can end up costing almost as much as the truck itself
But they are pretty fancy and looks like they can custom build what ever you can think (dream) of

John, I asked the same question. Two reasons, In the event of major disasters gas runs out first, 2nd if the diesel runs out we are hauling 200 gallons on the truck with us. I've not been involved in a disaster yet but I've been told after we get the towers up (we are FEMA certified) we will deliver water, food or whatever people need.

Edit, yep it's a dream, I'm sure they are high and way more expensive than I can afford now anyway. I'm more organized than most of the guys as I have my flatbed with the underbodies. One of my concerns is theft as I stay in hotels, so far nothings come up missing

More companies should be like that
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

my recomendation is to find a decommissioned fire truck theres tons out there that are older but with very few miles and us firefighters love compartments so finding that type of bed wont/shouldn't be hard

68k as in price? Wow. Seems cheap for what you get. Brand new dodge laramie longhorn diesel trucks go for that much up here. More actually.

Cory, just an FYI. I noticed in their write-up, they are touting aluminum over steel as aluminum doesn't rust. There is a BIG advantage to aluminum, but that is weight savings. While aluminum doesn't rust, salt EATS aluminum.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

    Who is this Cory guy?

Seriously, good thinking Cory. We get a lot of guys like yourself down here on the sandbar doing work, usually after the big storms, an most of them use diesels like in your pic. I know one of the ones we had come through a couple years ago Triton out of TX had 6 or 7 of the things. An Mick has a good point on the salt eating the alum. If you head into areas ravaged by hurricanes, you will have to deal with the salt. Something to think on. The guys that come here also usually stay at the hotels here, which I think is why they also use the trucks they do. They can lock up all their tools, etc so nothing gets up and "walks" away. Specially generators. We don't have much crime here, but car/truck breakin's do rank high, as I'm sure they do in a lot of areas.

Lovely truck tho. Good job thinking ahead.

An if your ever out this way for a disaster, you know how to reach me. I'll make sure your fed good an treated right. Wife's hotel is big for the contractor/disaster guys. Unless you bring Al roker with you. He's not liked very much down here. lol. Same with that idiot on the weather channel..Jim Cantori or whatever..both real prima donnas. I've had 'pleasure' of meeting both, wasn't impressed.

Stay safe, an keep the rubber side down.

John you don't have to plug up new diesel trucks either. But be that as it may i wouldnt want a new diesel truck. They get horrible mileage with all of the emissions you have to add def fluid every couple of fill ups.So on top of $4.+ per gallon you have to spend another $20 on def fluid every few fill ups.
Give me a older diesel and i am ok lol.Or anything before 07.5 lol
