Is anybody's yard open on weekends?

I haven't seen anyone talk about going to their yard on a weekend. I was just curious.

You would think the weekends would be the best days for a yard

You would think so. My yard is open from 6a-7p during the week as well and they are always packed. The job situation in Jersey is horrible so everybody is out picking stuff up. I have to start making new contacts soon. Places that I know stuff is just dumped I can't get to because of the snow.

7-12 on saturdays, we get more of the street guys and pickups on saturdays.. more roll-offs and commercial trucks during the week.

I've been to once (still in the planning stages at the moment, just got some nice thick gloves from Lowe's yesterday), but the yard that's about five minutes from my house is open on Saturdays from 9 to 5, and on Sundays from, I think, 10 to 3.

My yard is open all day on weekdays, but only 8 or 9 to 12 on Saturdays, and they're closed on Sundays. You'd think they would close for a weekday instead of being closed for most of the weekend.

People who are looking to make money while others nap? I know if I ran a yard, I'd be closed Wednesdays and Thursdays (or hire someone to run the place on those days) and I'd work weekends. They're just days, and you can get more personal business done during the week anyway.

I respect your work ethic, and willing to work on weekends, I work 6 days a week at my yard and sundays I'm usually doing cleanouts/scrap removal.. Anyway I can tell you this. The yard I work at, there's noo way we can be closed any week day. We have too many big accounts and demo companies, and carting companies that come repeatedly on a daily basis. They need to dump, soo if we were closed on a weekday they would just go elsewhere. Basically sundays would be open more for small customers and its just not worth it. Commercial trucks like trailers and roll offs, that actually carry weight don't work sundays.

A good majority of scrap yards make them money from commercial loads, that don't work on weekends. Why be open when a good hunk of your income isn't coming working?

Depending on what I'm taking in, I go to 4 different places. All are open on Saturday, but I don't go, as it is a madhouse with all the part time weekend warriors, especially at the one where I take iron, cars & motors. Waiting behind 50 guys, each with a few hundred pounds of unorganized, assorted crap is more hassle than it's worth. When you're taking 5-10 tons at a time, it's best to go M-F, mid-late morning. Most of the other guys around here that only haul big also avoid going in on Saturday for the same reason. I quit going on Saturday when it took me over 2 hours to get in and out. During the week, I've never had to wait more than about 20 minutes for my turn to get unloaded.
