    Its done

The deed has been done. Im speaking my last few cigarettes as i type this. Ive switched over to an electronic cigarette to help me quit for good. Ill be saving $50 a month once i quit for good, ill have slightly better health, and i will be one less person exposing my (future) children to that crap. This is going to suck a little. I need more scrap to keep my mind busy

You might check out Parrot's thread about the quitting, might be some useful info there as far as what/what not to use. He personally does not recommend the e-cigarette.

I wish you the best, but becareful with it, if you have kids in the house, or your using the higher percent stuff.

Always good to stop a bad habit, I was going to show this to Parrot, but hadn't gotten around to finding the thread.

Well done! I'm going on about 4 months now and I'm loving it. I feel better, and it's 100x cheaper. Hope you're able to stick with it.

Put that cash that you would have spent each day away. It will add up fast and may help you quit for good once you see how much it adds up to!

Please Google the dangers of e cigarette. Even a TV show did a report. May be worse than the real thing. Major complications ijs do your research. It may prolong a life .

Article I linked is about what steel is saying. The danger lies in the liquid nicotine, just keep it where it can't get on you, or your loved ones. Skin contact alone can cause issues, glad your quitting just be careful with the liquid if you go the reuseable route. The link is to the ny times, but i read it in USA Today this morning.

once again, good luck to ya.

Ultimately, quitting anything comes down to something simple. You have to have a reason for quitting that's greater than your reason for not. It sounds like a 5 year old philosophy but that's what it really comes down to. As humans we are selfish by nature; so whatever your vice is, you need to find something that means even more than what that vice provides to you.

I asked my dad to quit when I was very young and 30 years later he is still puffing them. I smoked heavily for about 4 years so, when I quit at the age of 27, it was because my mother wanted me to, I remembered how I felt when I asked my father and the sort of let down I felt. So, I promised her I would quit before I turned 30. I ended up quitting for her on her birthday ( a week before my 28th birthday).

I quit not just for her but to erase the sort of let down I felt, From my dad. I did it for her but mostly for me. I had a wish someone else couldn't fulfill so I did it myself.

It will usually take a gut wrenching amount of will power, luck, support and most importantly a selfish reason.

Be selfish- If you want to quit something do it for you.

I said it before, an I think it was lost...but as Russell just said. You have to quit for you, not others, or cause your forced, etc etc. This isn't to the op, but to anyone quitting something. Whether it's drugs, drinking, smoking, etc. You have to want to quit. People can yell at you all day the downsides, but unless you desire the change..chances are..it won't stick.

I find a lot of people preach or yell at others to stop a bad habit, an it just plain doesn't work for the majority. The person doing said habit has to want to quit, for themselves first, an the other stuff second. In my own not so humble opinion.

    YMMV.

I felt I had a good reason, they had just put me in the hospital the first time with what they thought was congestive heart failure. I was full of water (from my kidneys failing) and could not breathe. Their choices were; smoke or live. DUH,,,,,lol.

That was in Mar. of '08 and overall I can breathe a lot better but the damage has already been done.

Quitting is very hard to do but your incentive could be to look at your family and decide that you want to be around a few more years for them, or to be a thorn in someone's backside a while longer.
