Wow. Well, im sure that everyone else would recommend a lot of starting money, depending how big your planning to go with this. Get a good lawyer in case you get into anyone trying to turn in stolen property. Hope it works out for ya

If you need some advise, I would first suggest taking the time to read the old threads. There is a wealth of information all you need to do is a little searching. There are also plenty of part time scrappers here with are very knowledgeable by the way....

First of all let me start by asking you a few questions that will make it easyer to answer your question. How big of a recycling business do you plan on starting? Do you have a business plan? It sounds to me like your trying to jump into something you don't know too much about. How much experience do you have? If you little experience I would say start off with one thing like metal then when you get a handle on that you can expand to other things. This is a business that is hard to get good info on, most scrappers that you come in contact with won't help you because they see you as thiere compition. Like posted above, learn your way around this forum and read as many old threads as you can starting with the ones that pertain to the part of recycling that you want to start with. E-waste is the hardest to learn because it chanches so often but you can do it if you stick with it. This forum is the closest thing to a scrapping school that you will find.I have doing this for almost 7 years and I'm still learning new tips and tricks mostly do to this forum.

Well, I do plan to start off small. I plan to start off just sticking to the basics at first, then move into E-scrap, and then see where I am at that point. That being said, I also plan to on the side pick up all the garbage on the side of the roads here. Once I move into the E-scrap, Not all the time, because then I wouldnt profit, but every month or so fix up an old computer to donate to a needy family. Touching back to the starting at basics, i plan to just start scrapping, but also on the side, say once every few months, buy an old beater off craigslist for 300 or so and part it out for double what i paid.

Not sure about the city but you can contract through the state (In NH)... I wouldn't try this unless you are completely established with a fleet of trucks, workers, insurance, ext ext ext.
Adopt a highway is a free alternative and the state provides everything but the actual picking up (once again i can only speak for NH). They take the trash, you keep the scrap, earth is a little cleaner everyone wins.

Find buyers. Contact trade associations, embassies or for free information on buyers and importers of scrap.
