The first exposure I had to turning scrap metal in for cash was in a movie I watched as a teenager.
October Sky, great movie.
October Sky (1999) - IMDb
Long story short, 4 high school friends start a hobby making model rockets in the 1960's. They made the rockets out of one of the guys father's machine shop. They had to use moonshine as rocket fuel because of the high alcohol content. To fund their new hobby they take up scrapping unused railroad tracks.
(One of my favorite parts in the movie right there.)

Thanks to the many posts on SMF I've become aware of the many legal complications of scrapping train tracks today. However, the idea of making money for discarded junk stuck with me and is partly why I'm a scrapper today. So, anyone else know of any good movies that involve scrapping?
