Scrapping in Movies

The first exposure I had to turning scrap metal in for cash was in a movie I watched as a teenager. October Sky, great movie. October Sky (1999) - IMDb

Long story short, 4 high school friends start a hobby making model rockets in the 1960's. They made the rockets out of one of the guys father's machine shop. They had to use moonshine as rocket fuel because of the high alcohol content. To fund their new hobby they take up scrapping unused railroad tracks.

Thanks to the many posts on SMF I've become aware of the many legal complications of scrapping train tracks today. However, the idea of making money for discarded junk stuck with me and is partly why I'm a scrapper today. So, anyone else know of any good movies that involve scrapping?

Saw some back in the 80s. Non ferrous Bhuler's Day off, Scrap Wars, Romancing the Scrap, The Brasscfast Club, Fast Times at Red Brass High, Caddyscrap, Beverly Hills Copper, Back to the Ferrous, FULL METAL JACKET...etc.

I got my idea from watching Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel. I was getting very tired of being broke all the time and started wondering if there was something I could do about it. Mining for gold seemed a bit out of the question, but then my thoughts turned to looking for copper. The next day I was googling "scrap copper," and the rest is history.

I've actually seen all of those movies....I think. Haha, good one pjost. I like that, Full Metal Jacket didn't even have to be altered to be relevant. Great movie too, heck all the listed movies were great.

I saw not necessarily scrapping parts, but i was started with the old "junkyard wars" show. Started buying things from the scrap yard, bought a 10ft steel boat and a outboard for $126.00. Sold it for $400.00 and got it running. Thanks to that junkyard wars show, i wouldn't probably be here.

I remember that show. Was awesome. TLC aired it a long time ago, Back when TLC was a good channel...
