What I've learned living in a major hurricane zone...

What I've learned living a in a major hurricane zone...(Funny the title is the same!)

    1. If they say it'll pass, it'll hit you somehow.
    2. They will try an scare the crap out of you.
    3. Beer is good anytime during a hurricane. So are sodas an other drinks, if your not an adult beverage consumer.
    4. Hot dogs can be made in a variety of ways!
    5. Chef boyaredee is awesome. Best part.,.you can eat it cold if you have to!
    6. Subs are great hurricane food, stock up.
    7. Putting tape on your windows may sound smart...removing it sucks.
    8. Batten down your chairs, they don't look good in the neighbors window.
    9. Bring in all your animals, as funny as a wet cat looks, it's really not cool.
    10. No matter how much you walk your dog before a storm or the worse part...they will ALWAYS have to go out during the roughest part.
    11. Internet can stay up during some crazy stuff!
    12. Netflix an red box can help you keep the insanity away.
    13. Hurricane parties are fun.
    14. A beagle smells really funny when it gets wet.
    15. Beagles don't like water deeper then they are tall.
    16. Doritos taste awesome after wading through four foot water to chase down your grill that decided it wanted to go for a swim.
    17. Chain down your grill.
    18. Pallets are great for keeping things out of water.
    19. My shop never looks cleaner then right before a storm.
    20. Soon as you mow your yard they'll tell you a hurricane is coming through.
    21. Jim Cantori(The guy from the weather channel) is a jerk in person. I know I've met him. He's not welcome back.lol
    22. Al Roker..The happy fat guy thing he does..is just an act. He's a jerk an a diva. Met him to.
    23. Anyone not the weather channel is pretty cool when they come down to report on the storm.
    24. Reporters will leave you all kinds of goodies when they have to run to another story.
    25. You can have fun, an respect the storm.

Add on to 24: During 2012, before Sandy we had another storm, an one of the reporters had to fly out somewhere for a big story. Left me 62 beers(in a cooler! with ice!)15 gallons of gas(Didn't fill up for a bit), an several cases of water. Dude had a standing dinner anywhere on my sandbar if he ever comes back. lol.

Yes I'm bored. I'm done most of my prep work, the important stuff. Humor me.

    lol

About 60lbs of Ice. I'll get more tomorrow right before the storm. 20 in each cooler right now. I take my cold beverages seriously!

Plus I throw an extra 20 to 40 in the freezer. Power goes out it'll keep everything fresh an my drinks cold.

An no, I don't have a generator. If power goes out during the storm I suffer, if it stays out, I get a room at the wife's work.

    lol

So far all of you following the storm via the news, tv, etc. When you hear a town on my sandbar has been evacuated it's not me! I'm not in Hatteras, an they evacuate Hatteras all the time with big storms. Roads wash out south of me, an north of them. We had several sections of the road leading to Hatteras breached during Sandy. Big honking sections of it. Still have temp bridges over some of it. Ha ha!

So yea..Hatteras isn't me, nor does it mean the End times are here. Its a standard CYA move by the county, state, etc. Makes all the tourists leave, so the only ones doing dumb **** are the locals.

Oh an Cantori is still majorly disliked here. Was at the bar earlier with the wife having a drink with some of her co-workers, an he popped on the screen an the crowd erupted in boo's, an he was called some rather unnice names. He's seriously persona non-grata down here. lol.

Sirscrapalot - The weather channel should just change it's name to "The Fear Channel". It's more truthful.

Interesting on the weather type personalities being BUT Hooles, not that surprising since the one bragged about pooping his pants while at a party at the White House.

I use the internet for weather info these days and change over to broadcast radio when the internet is down.

Hurricanes is the only big problem I have with living in North Carolina, other wise its great and so are the vast majority of the people down here.

Well I'm not going to do a lot of prep unless it intensifies and I am keeping an eye out for that. Best to all Mike

Last I herd around 11 ish tonight. Weather will start after dark, the preceding rain, etc.

I will be online long as I can. Since I'm here at the house. Wife is up at work, will see her shortly but she'll be staying up there tonight incase of any call outs tomorrow, etc.

    The buckets are secure BC!

An we didn't get any major storms last year, part of the reason the winter was so harsh if you ask me. lol.

Hearing it's going to be upgraded to a cat 2. Oughta be an interesting night on the old sandbar.

Sirscrapalot - buckets an quotes are secure.

Keep your head down Bro. I'll be thinking of you for the next couple of days.

Gee ... we really didn't have a hurricane season last year. Kinda made me nervous cause there wasn't much energy in the atmosphere. That's a sure sign that it's gonna be a cold winter. Was really glad that i put up 12 cord of firewood last fall. We went through eight where most years we only use 5 1/2 to 6 cord. Even had enough to sell in the dead of winter when my neighbors started running out.

The big thing here is the Nor'easters. We're just off the coast and we get slammed pretty hard sometimes. Up to two feet of snow, 50 mph winds and wind chills down to -15 F. Fall prep involves putting up a couple of mos. of food, service the generator, get a couple of hundred gallons of diesel in the tank, and of course .... lots n lots of firewood !

Kinda two different worlds between the South & the North.

Well we are into the outer bands now at about 4:17(16:17 for the military minded). It looks like a mild storm at this time and if it does not site over the Gulf Stream picking up energy then all should be good.

The center of the storm seems aimed directly at the traveling cooler so be careful, I know you know how. Mike

Still sunny here with clouds coming in. Should start by nightfall if I have to guess far as the rain, wind is supposed to be picking up here soon.

You stay safe down there Mike, I'll do the same.

Thanks for the thoughts folks, right now I'd rather deal with snow then flooded shop an drive way. lol.
