The best answer that Ive read so far is to find a fellow scrapper with a truck and get rid of the problem and get some cabbage out of a bad news situation Sometimes teamwork is the key to success as opposed to yellow liquid into the breeze Just one Dads opinion

Unfortunately, we all pi** in the wind more often than we are willing to admit. Hopefully we all use these as learning experiences. My advice is to check the direction of the wind before starting and remember the saying "It's better to be pi**ed off than pi**ed on!"

Hey H&S. I just want to first commend you for getting into scrapping at such a young age. Believe it or not, I'm actually not that much older then you, and I was kind of in the same situation as you with family members not being fond of my scrapping. After having my father take me down with my first scrap load a few years ago, I was hooked, but not necessarily the rest of my family. They saw it as trash which really frusterated me. I would keep collecting "trash" and hiding it behind my fence until I could take it down with my grandpa's trailer. I did that for years and that's how I scrapped until I got my truck. I know, it really sucks having to depend on other people to scrap, I've been there, a lot! Whatever you do, don't get mad at any of your family members, because if you get them upset about you scrapping, no one is going to help you. Pretty much all Ican recommend is to talk it out with your folks and be respectful to everyone. Try and see if you can get someone with a truck to help you haul it or if you can get the scrap yard to drop off a container. Also, if and when you talk to your folks, be calm and explain to them what exactly you are doing because they may not really understand what you are trying to do. Pretty much you have to be respectful just like what has been said earlier. These guys give good advice. Feel free to PM me bro.

Kinda like, talk to me just don't talk At me. This is how it sounds to me, the uncle is talking At him (them) rather than talking TO him which, as an adult he should do. The youngster should follow suit which, it seems he isn't being given the chance. I'd never have thought H&S was 14 if I hadn't of seen it in a thread, he seems to be quite a go getter at his young age which should be applauded by the elders. I think a communication breakdown has occurred which is a shame really

H&S, I have confidence in you, I believe you can work this out. Heck, show Gramma and Grampa and future Uncle this site, knowing they have probably seen scrappers every day/week but maybe they don't quite understand just how hard and lucrative scrapping can be. Would they rather see you asking them for money? Or would they rather be proud of you for being able to make your own money? For taking the initiative? I rather think they would but are being otherwise influenced at this point in time.

As a mom, I am high-fiving you for your initiative and dedication to a cause that is hard, dirty and time consuming but reaps great rewards in more ways than one

H & S - Have a suggestion, try a little more effort with grandparents. They really are your "Ace in the Hole", with your scrap operation. Start out with really helping them with some things around their property and house. I'm sure they could use a little help from you around their place. What I'm trying to tell you, is "Make yourself the best Grandson", I'm sure your a good one already - but you need to be the "BEST". Then I think you will have no problem getting your scrap to the yard. Good Luck and I'm sure things are going to get better for you.

Find someone in your area to partner with. How far away is the scrap yard?

H&S, and if all else fails, have them read this thread! Maybe that will convince them that you're not trying to trick them or something...

I was reciently insulted by my sister in law. While setting up the operation in Omaha she asked me what my plans were. I told her I planed on getting the operation going and then tasking in one of the kids or grand kids as a partner. She in no uncertain terms told me NONE of her kids or grandkids were going to be scrappers.
    two daughters are on welfair
    one son is on disability
I think they all get food stamps
one grand daughter and grand son are wiating for sentencing for selling drugs.
the others all work a 9to 5. and are subject to lay offs and some one else's success.

some times ya just have to consider the source and move on.

H & S, hard as it may be, I think I would lay low and quiet for a time. Let egos and feelings and tempers cool down. Reason I say this is, if soon to be uncle gets too angry, it is possible he could call the city or even CPS. You dont want this, it can mean tickets (which equals more anger) or worse.

Agree with them that yes, it looks like junk (it does!).I can tell you my scrapping looks like trash! But is actually cash! Not everyone is able to see past the mess to the cash, unfortunately. The older we get sometimes the longer it takes for new ideas and ways to take root in us, and to not instantly dismiss them. Time, time, time.

Just dont want you to get in a worse situation…

If tempers subside, ask how they want the recycling removed and try your best to accomodate them. Just my opinion.

Who calls CPS over a scrap pile on the grandparents property? Assuming here you mean Child Protective Services.

I sure would love to be a fly buzzing around when they came out an see it was a false report cause an uncle wants to run things. He has parents who are raising him well from what it seems. Why would CPS involve it's self in something that nothing to do with the welfare of the child? Is the scrap pile abusing him?

An if CPS stands for something else...ignore this rant.

Sirscrapalot - I can't hear you. Nya nya nya! - Congress..whenever the people ask to be herd.

Yeah, Child Protective services is called when there's nothing but anger for a reason, unfortunately. You're right, it wouldnt make sense, but it happens. I agree he is being taken care of…people can become unreasonable when emotions run over and use most any public resource to cause problems.

They are (unfortunately) called for nothing but revenge (for lack of a better term), at times, same as almost any regulatory agencies. Doesnt make it right, but it happens.
I would like to have been a fly on the wall for a number of cases, which were false rpts. Wish they would prosecute people who knowingly file them.

Just was saying would hate for anything to get even worse. I wish everyone involved the best.
