    What do you think?

I have noticed a lot lately that people are answering question and directing people off site on others buyers threads. As a buyer and a large contributor to the forum I fond this a little troubling. If a buyer doesnt want to take the time to answer questions on there own threads then why would you expect them to treat any other form of communication any differently. Not only that I would hate to have someone answer a question on my buyers thread and it be wrong.

Hence the question. Does anyone else think that questions posted on a buyers thread should only be answered by the buyer? Unless of course its someone asking about feedback on said buyer.

    I agree 100%

This happened to me a while back and cost me some money? I was lucky to realize what happened but some may blame the buyer.

    Terry,

I completely agree that the buyer should be the one answering questions about there prices, policies, what they take, etc.. One thing that is helpful is that when a buyer has been absent for a significant amount of time, another member responds simply stating that the last time they logged in was xx months ago.

I try to be helpful but always let the one asking the questions needs to verify everything with said buyer first............Either way the buyers section is a mess in my opinion..........I am buried behind tons of buyers who don't even participate on this forum..........I know they may have paid at one point but how long should a buyers thread be left up when they haven't logged in this year?????...........Perhaps a section for active buyers???........And one for inactive????????...........I am here daily and try to help if I can but if its bothersome I will leave my door open and one can send me a Private Message

Thanks and good luck to all

This a good thread and perhaps an opportunity to clean up the buyers section...........Interesting to see what happens as I have seen members sending boxes to buyers who are not even around...Personally I wouldn't send anything without verifying first........I think some people get in this biz trying to make a quick buck and realize its not as easy as they think........Either way would love to hear from Admin/Moderators/Or anybody that gives a ****.......LOL just kidding and keep up the good work guys

Agreed. Also agree that a certain length of inactivity should at least bump you to the bottom.

I also think that inactivity on the forum should move a buyer down on the list. WAY DOWN. More activity should move you up! I also agree that questions should be answered by the buyer. While many of us could answer the question, we may not know about a recent development that would change the answer.

There are what, maybe ten?, buyers that are very active on the forum, answer many questions and just provide great information in general. I have been asked why I send some of my material 500-1000 miles to someone that I have never met in person. My answer is that I got my information on how to do what I do best, which is collect material and break it down, from buyers that participate in this forum. If I am to receive tips on how to be more successful and provide a buyer with material the way they like to receive it, not only do I get paid more, the buyer makes more money. Thus when I support them, they have more reason to support the forum with more information. The participation by a buyer in this forum is just another method of advertising for them. Some have used this to their advantage and have done very well with this forum as a source for business and some have not. The ones that have are the ones that I am willing to support. (now if I haven't sent you anything, don't take that as a slap in the face, we may still do business in the future!)

Its your tread and you should be the only one to answer. Its like walking into a local business and having a customer answer your question about the business. I also like to use the buyers here, honest and rewarding, and I will always get the same answer. Nothing like asking the same question 5 times at a local yard and getting 5 different answers from management and employees.

I would like to se some sort of ranking system, that would rank by "thumbs up" or something like that.

I could add a line of text to the sticky Guidelines thread at the top of the buyers section, but those stickies only go so far. I agree with this, as far as other members answering questions directed at the buyer. Additionally, you could always post a notice in your own thread asking other members not to answer questions on your behalf.

Have you ever bumped your thread? The ONLY way to be at the top of the Buyers & Sellers thread lists, (and categories) is to either post a new thread, or pay to bump an existing thread.

Threads with inactive members will naturally fall down the list over time and be stuck at the bottom because of the pay to bump option on buyer threads. Buyers with threads at or near the top of this section or any category are there because they are actively buying and promoting their threads.

The inactivity of buyers is certainly a legitimate concern amongst many of you, regardless of where they're located in the list so I'll see if I can work on that.

Maybe I could add a line of code to get the member's date of last activity to display within their thread along with their user information, location, member since, thanks etc...

We're always in favor of making improvements and adding functionality to add value onto what we to provide here, so I'm glad this thread was started, definitely a good discussion.

To address the concerns regarding last activity, I have implemented a "Buyer Last Online" field for buyers in the Scrap Buyers in Sellers section.

I think you just said what others were thinking.........I hate to say it but I don't agree with having to bump my thread by paying.........That is why I am in 123rd position.....My prerogative.........I understand it costs money to run this site but with all the pop ups etc that are on here seems they are doing ok........If you don't log in you can't even read the threads without ads in the way...........Never complained because its not really my place............Please note I'm not complaining just what I see as someone on the outside looking in..........I give kudos to someone like Craig Newark who still runs Craigslist with no pop ups or advertisements but he does charge for real estate listings in bigger areas........Oh well Keep up the good work

If there was wrong information posted I would generally message the admin or poster to fix it.

Personally I dont pay to bump my add till its at bottom of first page. I think I may have paid to bump it like 5 or 6 times now. But I also paid to have a second page just for scrap prices since I do mostly more than scrap value stuff. I in no way will pay to bump both pages. I also wont pay to bump to keep me in top 5. First page is good enuff for me.

I like the last online feature as well.
