While tearing down household goods I always wonder about the energy efficient symbol, especially after tearing out the AL wiring and motor.
Can someone explain how running less draw of current through a less conductive material is efficient? All electric equipment also loses energy in the form of heat, actually a law of physics (formula I^2R I= current R= Resistance). This also tells me AL is a less efficient metal than copper.
beefed up AL wires, around 50% larger than copper on the cut, can handle the amps and current weighing 30% less and costing much less.
what i see is, undersized motors with AL winding's pulling less current, is less efficient than a copper wound motor of equal and slightly greater size, or am i missing something?
basically.... if they want it to be efficient why don't they use copper?
