Owww, did you get stitches? As with any job, scrappers should have a healthy respect for all tools! (Note to myself). Sometimes my focus gets off safety and onto rush, rush,rush. Unfortunately, the tools are unforgiving. So far only minor cuts. Thx for the pictorial reminder that all scrappers need to stay focued on safety. Hang those pics in your work area for a sober reminder…and heal fast!

Ouch, I don't even like to look at that. Makes my leg hurt. Glad it wasn't worse, heal up quick and scrap safely.

Super glue..less painful, an much much cheaper.

Now you got some scrapping badges of honor! Let your scars show an be proud!

Careful out there, the tools we work with can inflict a good bit of harm if your not! Just ask my chisel, it likes to bite me now an then. Don't get cocky no matter how many times you break something down. Injuries like to happen when one stops thinking about safety.

Im not gonna say be safer or whatever because I'm the same way but why are you using a knife to scrap tires?

they said it was by a joint and the glue would just fall apart

My last cut was bad ,
A saw and my thumb it healed BUT the area of cut 1 inch is numb , & thats the deal .
The lesson is safety of course and it can always be worse .
I have done so many types of jobs and I found out

Scrapping as a dismantle type is one of the most dangerous jobs
saws - hammers - knives - cutters - chisels - objects flying the odds are NOT in your favor
if you let you guard down you will always get the prize sooner or later

Well, whiles its not a big slash, its in a danerous area. Lotsa big veins there.

In my less than 40 years doing this engineering scrapping etc..
I cut my arm once on a jagged rip in a steel car roof. Tied it up and kept on going, hardly a mark now.
And, slit thru the knuckle of left hand with grinder disc while putting it back in the holder, 3 stiches, nothing.
Squashed the end of my thumbnail in a lathe, removed broken off nail, that's it.
Over cut with a axe while chopping wood, into side of foot, 8 stitches, aged 13.
Never broken a bone ever.

All other injurys have been inflicted by others...

But? Using a boxcutter to remove a tyre? How? Why?

Three thing are going to cut you while scrapping, boxcutters... using a axe....sheet stainless steel.

And the time you hurt yourself is, the last thing you do...OK, its a funny, but at the end of the day, when you are about to give up or about to finish.. That's when you are going to slip.

If someone else hurts you, its always after you just said "Don't do xxxxx.
And that's what they do.. just what you told them what not to do...

So I never say the word "Don't" anymore, ever. I always rephrase it as "never".
I think the word 'don't' wrong wires the brain.

There is the answer to why your family didn't like that pile of scrap . Be careful ! And please start scrapping computers ! Much safer for you and easier to break down and store . I turn down jobs and refuse to scrap certain items because I'm not comfortable using certain tools . Not saying I could not do it but it's not worth getting hurt to find out . Trade that knife in for a screwdriver

I will agree utility knife for dealing with tires no use . if you have AL rims you know the value so pay the sum to remove tire
I pay around $3 but I also have to take old tire . steel wheels no profit so just sell at reduced rate.

But uh...yea..it is safer then some of the stuff we do.

I know your not a fan but vodka does wonders to stop bleeding on minor cuts . I almost lost a thumb polishing a wine glass bar tending one night . It's like kiwi said it's always on the last thing your doing or when you have done something 100 times and this time you were talking or not 100% focused . Heal Up and be safe Daniel son . i know use the sawzall for tires and its just easier to cut the tire off

You can drive over the tyre with a vehicld to break the bead off the rim.
Make sure the wheel won't flip up as you drive over it.

With Ali rims you can break out a chunk of the outer rim with a sledgehammer, then pull the bead of the tyre up over the break and thread the tyre off.

You can make a cut there with a anglegrinder and bash it with the sledge to do tge same.
Works well with steel rims.

Never try cutting the tyre with a grinder, it grabs suddenly and pulls the grinder, very dangerous.
