    wARNING1 WARNING1 WARNING1

There's still good people and good places out there. We choose to move from Fayetteville, NC to the mountains of NC; close to Boone to be more specific. It's truly like stepping back in time about 50 years. we had to escape all the violence of a big city. Every week someone was getting murdered or rapped. Here, streets roll up at 6pm, just about everyone is in church on Sunday and Wednesday, people actually drive the speed limit, kids listen to country and wear clothes that fit, the worst crime is domestic stuff and some drug use, everyone knows everyone....it's refreshing knowing there are still places like this.
Society has creeped in some though, most noticeably with kids and video games, we have Wal-Mart (you've got to love them and hate them), and of course TV (hard to filtwe that out). People have somehow managed to hold on to their roots of family, church, and hard work.
The thing I hate the most is all the tourists. They're either Yankees or from Flordia....basically one in the same. No offense to anybody. They just over run the place in the summer and have more money than they know what to do with. Example....a 4,000 square foot cabin on the side of a mountain that sits vacant 10 months out of the year.
What's refreshing though is driving by the fruit stand at night on my way home from work and seeing all the produce still left out...people able to trust people....wow, what a concept!!

You''ve got to love The Dukes of Hazard. I still watch re-runs all the time. I'm 34, but I grew up watching tv on an antenna too. We were lucky enough to have a channel the played all the old good ones: Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Combat, The Rat Patrol, etc.....so I'm fairly young, but I grew up on the oldies. My parents were older, born in '39 and '46 so I mostly listen to oldies and country growing up. I always told myself that I wish I grew up back then when men were men and people had respect for their country and themself
....back when most people kept their clothes in the closet and not secrets.

Ha ha @ the tourist comment.

Come visit my sandbar in the summer, you'll like your tourists a lot more.

An remember there is two kinds of tourists...a tourist, an a touron. Don't be the second, an welcome the first.

Those tourists from Florida, most of them moved here from NY. That is why I live in the real Florida, some times refereed to as LA (lower Alabama) But realy known as THE REPUBLIC OF WEST FLORIDA. The first republic established on the north American continent. The original lone star state home of the Bonie Blue, the first flag of America and, the first flag of the confederation of the free southern states.

The Republic of West Florida was un ceremoniously just thrown in with the rest of Florida when it became a state, no vote of the citizens, or were they even asked. That strip of land was offered to Alabama for one Million dollars, by the U.S. government (again with out asking it's citizens) Alabama turned it down sooooo I think it was Theodore Roosevelt who was President at the time.

A little history with some reality thrown in.

A friend of mine said he will be on storage wars sometime soon. I guess the show asked one of his friends if they could use some collectibles he had so they could put them in the storage unit. He said the whole thing was totally staged and the value they put on the items is really high.

I went to a storage unit auction one time in which the guy from the storage wars show was the auctioneer. They werent filming or anything but, people were bidding on units for $400-$500 in which I wouldn't pay more than $50. The auctioneer from the show is really good at what he does. He is able to get bidders to get really into it, want to win, and forget about what they are actually bidding on.

As for cable, I dont buy it. We watch pretty much everything online.
