Well you have to have a little self respect, and Carry your self a certain way have a little bounce in your step, get your self a couple of sets of work uniforms or work pants and shirts, keep a spare in the truck, I used to carry wipes and would clean up a couple of times a day, the image you carry goes a long way,and by the way, when my white collar cousins and relatives need a loan they know that uncle Mike the scrap man can and always does help them. Happy Scraping 1956.

It worked for me. In middle school, there was a bully who kept picking on me. One day, in gym class, he grabbed me and held me during a dodgeball game. I never fight. I did that day, though.

An elbow to the groin, and a haymaker to the nose.

He never bullied me again. He feared me after that. Every bully did.

I knew the principal very well. We were sent in. The bully asked that I be given a detention. I replied that an hour of time for peace from bullies would be an hour well spent. I was sent back to class at that point.

I never threw another punch. I didn't need to. I don't like fighting, and am a very peaceful person. Sometimes, you have to fight, though. Don't pick on the farmer's son, though. That never goes well!

I always joke that "I'm not in the cool kid club". What I mean by this is at no matter what position I was in life I have felt like I was always a joke to some people and there was always people putting me down, When I was in the army, when I played semi pro football and at every job I have ever had. There is always some people who will put you down and talk behind your back. I don't think it matters who you are. Haters are going to hate. Be confident, do right to others, do better than you did the day before and make the world better. Remember hate is a step on the path to the dark side.

Ain't a day goes by that I don't consider myself humble. "He who is first will be last and he who is last will be first". I read that in the good book. "Whatsoever you do, do it as unto the Lord". He's the only one you have to please; not those around you. I'm older and gray now with a beard and I've been saying that I now look like a 'junkman' so I might as well be one. LOL Be proud of your hobby/occupation boy; you'll still have your job scrappin someday when your friends will be fired from a job and looking for another one.

Thank you hobo and matador. You just can't reason with some people. I remember my first bully. He rode the same bus and sat beside me every day. It got so bad that I didn't want to go to school. My Mom told me next time it happened to punch the SOB in the stomach as hard as I could. Ya know what? It worked! An hour later we were sitting in the principals office and my Mom showed up and she was pissed, but not at me. Her exact words to the principal were, "Yes I know what happened and I told him to punch the SOB". She was awesome.
I really couldn't give a furry rats behind what people think about me but I'll tell you this. Teasing and bullying doesn't stop when you get out of school. It continues throughout life. You need to learn to deal with it. I have to deal with customers all the time that talk down to me and try to intimidate me. I see their employees sitting at their desk looking like scared little mice because their boss is butthole. No, I don't punch them in the stomach anymore but this is what I say. " Yes Mr. Smith, I realize your phone system is a vital part of your business and you are loosing money when it's not working properly. However, if you continue to talk to me like that I will pack up my tools and leave". Works every time.....or you could just punch them.

OK...So a few hours after my first response and I get to work and find one of the techs has thrown a handful of small pieces of cardboard in my cubicle because he knows it bugs me. All in fun. His cube is now packed full of big boxes.

I had a kid that was in my scout troop and my classes in Jr. High. This kid was a privileged turd. I never wanted to fight him at school because I feared In School Suspension (no matter who starts it- both guys get ISS) But he taunted me.. did dumb crap, blew his trumpet in my face, threw crap at me.. I don't remember every detail from then.. but I remember it was miserable.

I sat there at night in a rage, I pondered kicking his a$$, I went over the fight in my head 1,000 times or more. One night at scouts we were doing an orienteering challenge where our scout master would give us coordinates and we would find our snack. There were 2 teams- one found the snack, the other team found the drink.

My best friend was in my troop too. That night, as usual I wanted my best buddy on my team, the turd said "No He's going to be on my team" I got in his face, and he stood his ground. He pushed me, I pushed him back, He pushed me and I stepped back in and laid his a$$ out. In my mind the light was green. I said "Get up mother**cker" He wouldn't get up. I took about a year of angst and pent up hostility and put it all into that one punch.. it was all it took! He was done.. wouldn't get up.. wouldn't fight!

He and another guy went inside together to go to the bathroom.. I stood outside and finished my task. Once we got inside I figured I was going to get it.. his dad was a leader, my dad was a leader and the scoutmaster was a tough old Vietnam vet who took no crap! When we walk in, this kid's face swelled to the size of a grapefruit.. all his dad said was "Opened your mouth again didn't ya?"

    And that was that!

    I love that story Sledge.

When I was in 6th grade I had the misfortune of sitting right in front of one of the biggest dousches in our class. He would constantly flick my ears and smack my neck when the teacher wasn't looking. He was not only a dousche, but one of the toughest kids. I was far from being tough, in fact I was quite whimppy. I was no crybaby tho. Never told the teacher, my parents nobody.

One day adrenalin took over, I spun in my swiveling desk chair to my right with a closed fist backhand. I never made contact, but a-hole behind me jerked back so hard to get out of the way, he broke the chair off his desk and landed flat on his back, with chair still attached to his butt.

The entire class burst out laughing at him laying there, flat on his back still in the chair. Never had another problem with him. His name was Waylon. Hated that kid.
Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is.

    Pjost-
I'm like you my man.. My family has a rule- "We start crap with NO-ONE! But if you mess with us- we WILL finish it.. and you won't like the outcome!"

I remember in High School there was a kid in my Spanish class.. same type of thing- sat right behind me.. same type of crap.. one day he took one of my books out from the rack below and slid the book up to the front of the classroom.. I got up to get it and when I got back to my seat he had taken another book out from the rack and slid it to the back wall. As I went to get the second book in the back of the room I kicked every book of his under the chair out onto the floor and had my fist up ready to knock is a$$ out right as he sat.. teacher must have been a track star because she got between he and I at darn near the same time the books of his hit the floor. We both got detention.. I showed.. he didn't- and he ended up with 3 days of In School Suspension.

That was a fight I wanted.. I don't tend to fight unless you push me too far.. I really wanted to connect fist to face on that little prick!

Another high school incident I had was I went through this bad high school romance breakup.. girl decided to rebound hard and fast with a guy that I was like "Whaaaaaaaa?" He had friends, I had friends.. well one of his buddies worked with me and thought he'd do his friend duty and try and give me crap at work. One day he mouthed off to me and I mouthed back at him. He then went to the Asst mgr and asked her "How much trouble can I get into if I get in a fight on Company Property" She informed him he would lose his job.

Funny thing was my Asst. Mgr and I were really tight. She and her husband would take me out drinking (ahh youth) so she pulled me aside and said "Mike says he's going to kick your a$$ after work" Mind you I am 6'1" and 180 lbs. This kid was about 6' and weighed about 250, played football, he was a big boy. But I had a chip on my shoulder with all the breakup drama and I waited for a time in the evening that he and I would be in the stock room at the same time. And all I said to him was:
"You might be bigger than me- but I'm faster and a hell of a lot meaner that you'll ever be- you want to fight after work? Meet me in the adjoining parking lot- and I'll whoop your a$$!"

9:30 came and he walked faster than I've ever seen to his car. I called him out- said "Come on Punk- Kick my a$$.. where you going?" Never another word from him. I would have unloaded all of my sadness, anger, and everything else I was going through at the moment on him.. I guarantee someone would have had to pull me off of him!
