Would like some advice

I think this is in the right section as I didn't see that it'd go anywhere else. When I get set up in NY again, one of the first things I plan on doing is getting a lifetime membership. With that I'll be able to post in the buyer/sellers section. I'd like advise when it comes to pricing everything from a buyers prospective(as that is what I'll be doing). I was going to offer low prices at first and then when money started to come in, I'd raise prices. I'd like some advice on wither this is a bad way of approaching this or does everyone buy and adjust based on the market or...

I'm working on a similar setup.

What are you looking to buy? E-Waste? Catalytic Converters? Something completely different?

I'd look at the current buyers, and see what they are offering. Especially for the "local" buyers. You may be able to get a large regional following. I'm in Wyoming, so lower prices may be more competitive for a scrapper in Utah than shipping them to Pennsylvania would be.

If you're looking to get the wheels rolling, you may want to only work with small quantities at first. The best thing is to be upfront. I'd be fine sending you E-Waste if you needed 2 weeks to process it. I just like to know ahead of time.

If you're not testing stuff, you're lead times will be shorter, though.

Of course - it'll all be e-waste with a couple of other items added. I was going to offer in the ten to thirty cent range per pound to start because I'll be starting fresh(like with nothing) and then bump it up as profit goes up(so say I purchase 10lbs of misc scrap at ten cents a pound and processed I get back $15-20, I'd raise my buy price on misc scrap value to thirty or fourty cents a pound instead of leaving it at ten cents a pound). Sourcing locally is another matter I'll be testing out. I just didn't want to post my prices then find that I'd been removed for being too cheap.

You won't be removed. People may just send their stuff elsewhere. Some of us are cheap.

So, you're just looking to buy general E-Waste, as in old computers (Not already split?)

I don't think anyone here does that. That may give you a niche.

Or, I may be confused and off in left field. With me, that's a real possibility.

If you are attempting to buy any form of scrap or E-scrap from board members,
you will need to be competitive on your buying prices.
You may need to pay more than others to get the flow going.
You have to offer a reason for people to sell to you...as in better prices, better service, location ect.
Same for buying locally...

If it was easy..everyone would do it....

I get what your saying that would be a good start for local buying some yards around here do that they buy boards at 0.10# and less and resell for at least $2.00#. But as for the forum you might wanna wait till you get rolling so you could bump your prices up and be somewhat competitive.

If you're buying whole machines, it'll have to be regional. There's no way I'd ship a Pentium III desktop for $0.10 per pound. I'd be writing you a check to take it.

I'd focus locally, and offer competitive prices on the parts that you're looking for (If you're looking for something specific). If you're looking in general, you'll want to be competitive, or focus locally.

Just my $0.02
