Stella Liebeck who, in 1992, ordered a cup of McDonald's coffee at a drive thru, put it in between her knees while sitting in the passenger seat of her grandson's stationary car,
and attempted to remove the lid in order to add cream and sugar.[2] The coffee, 180 to 190 °F (82 to 88 °C), spilled from the cup, causing third degree burns.
They pretty much have solved this problem (but not idioticy) by adding your cream and sugar to the coffee for you, and they now have a feature called "light ice". This is where they add a few cubes of ice to your coffee where it is drinkable when you get it. Course if you get a new employee then you get to enjoy their "iced coffee".
