I was out with my son going to one of our internet towers to troubleshoot why it was down. It was up a back road, quite a ways from the middle of nowhere....and, there it was...in its natural habitat, looking innocent as heck....a
current bush!!
I stood the truck on its nose to have a close look and get a few photos before it got away!
It was a current bush, alright. A mature one, pure cast iron, no cheap plastic here.
The big mystery here: Current bushes usually grow around human habitation. This one was out in the wilds, by itself. We were on a high voltage power line, with the nearest houses at least half a mile away, across a river...
Looking one way:
Looking the other way:
Didn't have anything to test to see if it was live. Its perch was pretty old, though, and nearly rotten off. Our best guess was it grew up by a Contractor's camp set up when they built the powerline, 30-50 years ago.
We'll come back in the spring with a metal detector and see if the conduit goes very far. Happy hunting!!
Jon.
