    I found a current bush!!!

I was out with my son going to one of our internet towers to troubleshoot why it was down. It was up a back road, quite a ways from the middle of nowhere....and, there it was...in its natural habitat, looking innocent as heck....a current bush!!

I stood the truck on its nose to have a close look and get a few photos before it got away!

It was a current bush, alright. A mature one, pure cast iron, no cheap plastic here.

The big mystery here: Current bushes usually grow around human habitation. This one was out in the wilds, by itself. We were on a high voltage power line, with the nearest houses at least half a mile away, across a river...

    Looking one way:

    Looking the other way:

Didn't have anything to test to see if it was live. Its perch was pretty old, though, and nearly rotten off. Our best guess was it grew up by a Contractor's camp set up when they built the powerline, 30-50 years ago.

We'll come back in the spring with a metal detector and see if the conduit goes very far. Happy hunting!!

    Jon.

I want a current bush! I saw one at an E-Waste event. I harvested its fruit to power a radio. That was a nice bush!

I'm still holding out to see one that's potted. That would be awesome.

Now kids, don't water the current bush! Trust me!

The big mystery here is why there is this 120VAC plug-in located in the middle of nowhere. Kind of a headscratcher. There is absolutely nothing else around that item for a long way that even resembles human habitation. There's a gravel pit a mile and half up the road, and like I said, some houses across the river, a half mile the other way.

So its noticeable by its very existence. Kinda like, "whats that? A charging station for jackrabbits?"

Wonder what was there once upon a time? Someone had to have planted it there years ago.

That's just strange for it to be in the middle of nowhere like that.
