why do people waste money on drugs?

theres this one guy- another muslim fellow
lives near the old man with whom i had that big argument last week

anyways, hes married with 3 young girls
his wife is always getting angry & leaving him for months- staying at her parents place because he has a drug habit

this guy used to collect scrap metal but due to the nasty old man
he now collects plastic- HDPE, LDPE etc

he asks me once a month to take his load of plastic down to the industrial area where theres a place that buys plastic from him

today was one of those days

he pays me a fair amount for helping him
but i feel very sad to see him drugged out of his mind a few hours later
he wastes most of his money on drugs
    and he neglects his kids

    people like this
why do they ever get married & have kids?

u feel sorry for them & their family
but nobody can help him if he is not serious about quitting

An equally valid question is why do people waste money on kids and marriage instead of drugs. I have neither, so I can't definitely say which is better.

We feel sorry for those people, but they have intentionally ruined their reputation, finances, future and family....yet they won't (or can't) quit.
If they had it to do over again, I wonder if they'd do the same thing. I can't understand their motives and I don't even understand chemical dependency, but it's a real issue. Not only a danger to themselves and their family; others around them never know what they'll do.

Why do people drink (myself included)? IMHO smoking a joint is less harmful than a six pack of PBR.
Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is.
