don't know if it tech counts as a single item but the most money in a single thing was my first big job. no experience just called the property owner and offered 20 percent of my take for a hardees that went out of business and was going to be torn down about 10yrs ago. they took their appliances inside like cooler fryers and such but left everything else. chairs tables windows doors wire pipes fuse boxes ac/heating unit on roof and everything I could get out. after all said and done about $12000.
That's kind of a personal question to be asking on a public forum.

"Give them enough so they can do something with it, but not too much that they won't do nothing."
I took apart a laptop and sold the memory for $40
Mine would be (now this is not a single item, but... was all connected)
about a year ago I ripped apart a 4 cabinet data closet that I paid $200 for the right to do. The property owner needed it gone so he could lease the office out again and I wound up with about 10x what I was hoping for. Scrapped quite a bit of it and resold quite a bit of it. There were a couple really valuable Cisco servers and a monster APC UPS left in there. Cha-Ching.
EASIEST money that was a fair amount was this...got 101 business desktops for free during an IT swapout at a hospital...no hard drive, keyboard, mouse or monitor. All P4 and a few dual cores....picked them up, palatalized them once I got back to my space and made some calls....got a deal for $9 each and they pick it up. Total time invested...eh....4-5 hours....payout was $1000...not killing it, but $250/hr doesn't suck...oh and this was earlier this year.
PROFIT is made when you BUY/ACQUIRE NOT when you sell
A propane heater full of mud. Turned out to be an antique and the mud turned out to be cow droppings. Good time$!
I guess we just translate things differently...What have you got the most for scrapping
Name something you scrapped and got the most you ever got or something you got quite a bit for
And no maybe not that big of deal, I guess I was just raised to not ask people how much they make or about their personal finances unless they volunteer the info. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
I got a house clean out once. I was paid 500 for the job, got 3 loads of scrap and 2 loads for the flea market plus odds and ends.
Decommissioned 10 ton commercial ac , weighed about 3000 lbs . Between the coil , sealed units I ate very well that week.
I also do well buying gold jewelry at estate sales or public auctions , it's not always the biggest is the best . Some days the jewelry in my pocket is worth 3x the full load on my truck .
I'm with kz thou , I will keep the numbers to myself but those are the cream of the crop for me at least.
Buying ewaste and video games !
The most valuable thing scraped was the first one. The profit was beyond anything I imagined. It paid pride, self sufficiency, insight, and a new life style. Hoping these things will not be taxed because I am with KZ on this one.
The most valuable asset gained from this commodity was freedom.

Brass. Brass is what pays the most for me. I buy the crap at garage sales and drop it off at the yard. Week in, week out.
The most I ever got out of Scraping was going to work with my father, he used a horse and wagon thru the streets of Brooklyn New York in the 60ies, seemed like he new every one and every one had some scrap for him. Thats wow i remember it, got something out of that almost fifty years later still going strong. and i remember the horses name Lacy
Mine would have to either have to copper and brass or shred
I found a coda 5 pc drumset on the curb and sold it on craigslist for $250.. I also curb shopped for 6 months, went out about 6-7 times, and made $800 on misc items at my yard sale... I also found a oil painting from the alfro guy on wqln... worth $1500.. its hanging in my room
