You don't need all wheel drive. I have three vehicles I drive mostly- an Audi A6 quattro, a Buick LeSabre (FWD), and a RWD Chevrolet pickup. Common sense, and you'll be fine. All wheel drive just gets you going. After that, you're on your own. The first vehicles in the ditches here are 4x4 Suburbans and Subarus. People think they're invincible.
What driving school offers near-new cars? I took mine in a 20 year old Taurus with over 250k miles. And, a lot of dents.
