Do you have a Smart TV(Internet ready, built in wifii) and if so...how do you like it?



I just bought one earlier this evening. Christmas Present for the house. Wife finally conned me into upgrading. Ended up with a 32 inch RCA Smart TV. Could gotten a 39 inch but I wanted the built in wifii as it would have been a pain the ass to hook it up to the internet any other way.

So tell me your thoughts on your TV, or any tips an tricks you may have for a Smart TV.

One thing I have found that kicks ass for TV wifi is a Roku. It will stream from wifi to your TV. There is even an ap that lets you pull music files off your computer and play them through your surround system.

Yea..I thought about going with Roku, but I was using a tube, again more bother then I wanted. Figured if I was going to upgrade might as well do it all in one go.

How do you like the Roku? For those reading this who may or may not know what it is or much about it.

Sirscrapalot - I hope my tv is smarter then my so called smart phone.

My son called up a few days ago to tell us he had ordered up a flatscreen and that it was on the way. ( Christmas gift )

I've been a little hesitant about switching over to high def because we have a pretty nice "Bubble back". It's time proven and works well.

Not so sure about the flat screens .... been seeing a lot of them on the dump. Even the trusted brand names ! It's unsettling to think that you could sink hundreds into one and have it fail in less than five years. They're difficult / impossible to repair.

Anyway .... it's a step up for us. It opens up more possibilities.

I've got quite a few computers that i've refurbished and some are actually quite nice. It's just guesswork at this point, but i think one of them might be more versatile than something like Roku or a Play station 3 for interfacing with the web and playing digital media ? The other things seem to be task specific with a limited amount of ram & processor speed from the tear downs i've done.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

We have two at our house and also one at the office. What we do is use the google chrome and like it more than the roku. Also with the chrome you use chrome cast and it will project what's on your laptop or tablet or smart phone directly on the tv. Just another option to look at for you and it's cheaper than the roku. I think the last one I bought was 35$

Wish I could help. Just got the first HD TV and used an adaptor to get HD until recently. Still depend on an antenna, without cable or satellite TV. Happy with my 3 and 1/2 channels. As far as the internet, dependent on the phone company. A redneck in the middle of no where has few choices. And I will not pay to be entertained when I have all this s**t to scrap.

Guess this shows my lack of knowledge of modern technology and I am proud of it.

Built in wifii for easy streaming. From what I'm hearing I'll need a device like the Roku USB stick or another company's in order to add the apps to watch from other then Netflix. Mine came with Netflix. Mighty nice just hitting the button, an poof I'm in an browsing for movies, vs switching things over to video, firing up the 360 an going through a bunch of bother.

Mine is added into my home network. Was easy to do to, no harder then hooking up any other wireless device.

Edit: Higher end models will let you browse the web to a degree from what I understand. I'm cheap, I didn't buy high end. Hell it took me this long just to upgrade my tube tv. lol.

Sirscrapalot - Enjoyed Netflix earlier despite the bad movie they suggested.

My monitor/TV uses less space than the two CRTs I had, but I don't use the TV function much anymore. I found a TV antenna, so I might use it as a radio antenna, if I find a radio.

Smart TVs may spy on the users, so I'm not likely to pay for that.

My mother in law has one and she loves it - uses something called net tv to watch hulu, netflix and youtube.

Smart TV's are cool, but not worth it for the difference in price. You can get a blueray player with internet connectivity for less than 100.00, that can do everything a smart TV can. Ours has all the same apps you can get, and internet access. The smart TV's are several hundred dollars more than the regular models. You can also get chrome cast for 35.00, which plugs into the TV and displays whatever you want from your computer or phone.

Mine was 50 bucks more then a non-smart.

This time of the year I pay full price for nothing. Despite what the retailers an media say, Black friday isn't the only time to find a good deal.

Good info tho,perhaps it'll help someone else out. I don't do all those devices, an I needed a flat screen anyways. So for 50 bucks more..I got built in wifii, an the wife is happy, an that makes it worth it.

It took me forever just to move to a flat screen. Asking me to do blu-ray an all that other stuff in one go is a good way to make me freak out. Only reason I gave in was so I didn't have to keep moving this heavy ass tube every time we move or the wife wants to rearrange the living room.
