That guy is my freakin hero right there ! NEVER give up !
Gotta love someone that won't give up. Prices down? Get more!
So maybe now is a good time to review what can we do while riding out the storm...
First things first, selling to a scrap yard has always been a worst case scenario as many things do have a "better then scrap price value". I'm guilty of being lazy when prices are good and taking the easy way out, but now we are forced to stop and think first.
Here's a pic I took a couple of years ago at a steel yard that sold cut offs and smaller orders of steel. (Many steel yards won't even deal with small orders) I'm sure many of you have usable steel for guys that have small projects and don't want to pay the big buck steel yards like to get.
Check into Blacksmithing Groups that need material.
Artists are always looking for unique material and medium. Look at your bigger pieces to see if you can separate smaller pieces from it that artists can use or the piece by itself is worthy of putting on the wall or yard.
Steel siding is always in high demand as well as some bikes...whole or parts.
Thanks KC. Your insight is valuable and right on track. I cannot afford to haul steel at the present prices, so have had to redirect my efforts.
The competition around here is still hauling because they depend on scraping, since they cannot or do not want to get another job. My game plan is a lot different.
Loved the video and kept waiting to see grey exhaust indicating the diesel had kicked into high gear. Been there, done that, but not in water.
I'm going to continue to collect all of the computers and phone systems I can. I usually scrap all of it but I'm going to keep and test some of the phone systems. Some of these systems are 15 to 18 years old and are still good reliable phone systems.
Am I the only one who was singing "We all live in a yellow Submarine" while watching that video?
When it gets tough scrapping...the hard headed ones keep going an profit any way they can.

I went to the yard today at 1:30 and 3:00pm. The place stays open to 5pm and is usually steady. It was dead both times I went. I also was the only guy at the shred pile throwing stuff in and the shred pile looked like it does at 7 am, very low.

The scale guy said he can no longer buy power supplies from me and that he said he got yelled at by the boss for buying from me last time. Great just more time that I don't have.
