    Saturday evening story #4

A post today reminded me of an incident of my youth. As most of you know I was raised in Omaha. Omaha is a bastion of old school justice. (we handled our own problems. The only contact we had with the police was when they beat the crap out of us in the elevator on the way up to the cells.) I was raised in an area off 16th and fort which was known for kinda takin this view to the extreme. (circa 1959/ 1960 or so)

I was probably 17 my brother was 15 we were always looking for work to make a buck. We went to an area where they were building a bunch of new housing and, finally found work un loading 1/2 inch sheet rock for a sub contractor. Now if any one knows about sheet rock you know it is heavy 8x4 sheets TWO taped together.

We agreed to unload it for .05 EACH per sheet. It turned out we were unloading into the second story. (first clue) My brother stood on the porch roof and had to carry it through a front window frame I stood on the truck and handed it up to him.

Long story short it took us all day to un load the truck into several houses. It was without doubt one of the physically hardest work related things I have ever done.
We finished in the early evening and went to the yard to collect our well earned pay. It turned out we had to chase theis guy for 3 days to get paid (2nd clue). I don't remember but, the pay should have been around $50. ($25 each). The jerk paid us $20. ($10 ea.)

The next morning His truck was setting on blocks and the 10 tires are probably still on the bottom of the Missouri river.

NOTE: Im not saying this was right or do I recommend any one try this today. It's just an example of old school justice.
