You sound kind of melancholy today. My grandpa always said, ****it I’m going to live until I die. And that’s what he did for all of his 86 years.
I really don’t think you are much different than he. Being a scrapper is not the same as scrapping/recycle.
Look you put in words of wisdom in this thread alone. The key to a successful marriage.

I went out today and bought a 28 ft camper.
Wife and kids live here in a 5 year old double wide.
    Don’t live with then.

    Olddude...

    Oh the memories.

Taught me a many a good lesson with his awesome posts. Whether on the scrap business or life, your posts hit all the points. I've learned from Olddude, I've laughed with Olddude, an of course..I've felt the tough love of Olddude.

I've learned much from you my friend, an while I can't say I've contributed anywhere the amount of knowledge an experience, I hope I've given you a chuckle or two with my odd an even to myself confusing ways.

Ever take that trailer on the road my sandbar ain't far an there will always be a spot for ya Olddude. Don't even bring any beverages, I got ya covered.

I don't really have the words (amazing I know) to say what I want, so I'll just say..

    Thank you.

Sirscrapalot - No really...Thank you, for everything.

Olddude, your one of the only guys that gets my brain going on a regular basis. I don't think I would have pushed this business as hard as I have without that kind of inspiration. For that I thank you and also wish you well. Keep your hobbies obviously.

All the best to you, Mike. Being in business for myself, I have learned from and been inspired by your experiences that you have shared with us.

My granddad is going on 71, and still working every day. Six steel pins in his back and three surgeries in the past five years. In his mind, he wants to work like he's 30, but I know his body feels closer to 100. It drives him nuts. It's hard to slow down when you don't really want to, but simply have to. I can't honestly say that I personally know what you're going through, but I'm very close to someone who does.

I hope I'm half as tough as you guys are if I see 71!

Best of luck to you! I know it's tough. My father's 72, and is getting to the point where he can't do as much as I know he used to be able to.

Never quit, though. Once you lose all reason to live, life goes downhill quickly. I learned that from my grandfather- he gave up, and it was only a matter of time then.

Look at it this way- you may do a little less, but you have more time to smell the roses, and you may get a mid-day nap. I'd certainly love that!

Here's to a great past (At least the little bit that I'm humbled to know), and to a bright future!

I don't blame you a bit for slowing down, Mike. You've lead a tough life and you deserve a rest.

I remember back to 2011 when we were both trying to figure out ewaste. You figured it out and grew by leaps and bounds and I admire and look up to you for that.

You've never written a post that I have enjoyed, even the tough love ones and I look forward to many more from you. Enjoy your rest and forget about work my friend!

I don't believe you can scrap wood. Make sure it is a gnarly old thing that looks like it came from the haunted forest in the wizard of Oz.

Olddude, I was just thinking as I was in the shower that I have had a great life. I will be 53 in a little more than a month and if I was to get hit by a rock hauler, I truly would be thankful to have led the charmed life I have. There is something to be said for living life on your own terms and scrapping is the closest I have found to free money... I would try hooking, but I think I have to wait until the ladies get a little older. Best of luck, and do what you can. When you stop, you will stop. You will have eternity to rest.

olddude do what you feel you need to do and I know you will. You and I, I'm sure are different in many ways and that is good. That is what makes life what it is, everyday a little different than the day before. Days are like people, each a little different, some are very interesting, some plain a$$ boring (I'm sure you are not).. The one thing I've learned about you, you "march" to your own beat always have and always will. The one way I know we are alike, we do it our way and that is good!

I have been reading over these forums for awhile now and it was this thread that got me thinking of becoming a SMF member.

I'm vintage 1958 and I'm rusting and wearing out a bit from the many years of Life so far. I haven't had much in the broken bone department, but I do get the achy joints and I can't see as well as when younger. I just need reading glasses for close up things, but that is where my attention is most of the time this part of the year with weather and such.

I have always been a OUTSIDE person and I do like my personal space for plenty of free thinking and arm and leg room.

I have always been more interested in how something worked then the devices and items themselves. I didn't start watching TV until I was 20. When younger I was more interested in what made a TV work then what was on it for programing. As I get older I like keeping things as simple and uncomplicated as possible. But humans do like a challenge here and there, now and then.

So my Thanks & hats off to you Olddude for giving me some divine type inspiration for my continued quest in search of lost relics and interesting curios through the pathways of a Time Capsule.

You make me all nostalgic here, olddude. You're only 6 years my senior and I'm active in what I do plus scrapping and just can't imagine it would ever change, but one look in the mirror and the bathroom scale makes me slowly come to grips with reality. As with everyone else on here, I enjoy your posts and the sharing of your wisdom. I'll probably expire before I ever learn as much as you've already forgot.....but still.

One word of advice for you.....don't pull out your gold and silver teeth and put em on the world market and go ahead and let a little lead form in your backside and enjoy yourself. Sounds like you deserve it.

I haven't been here long enough to feel worthy to even post here. I can tell you this though: when I check in to SMF and I see an olddude post, my mouse is drawn to it first.

Experience, wisdom, knowledge, and a good dose of common sense is always present in your writings.

Please don't downsize your SMF contributions. In fact, I nominate olddude as a SMF Moderator.

    Thank you sir.

Dude, Much has been said already and I second it all. The only thing I can add is take some time and enjoy life and all it offers.
My brother worked a job for over 30 years then one day he was gone. He never got a chance to sit back and enjoy life, dip a line in the water, etc.
Look forward to more postings tho,,, enjoy it all. Mike

    DUCT tape anyone?

Hope it's o.k. for me to put this here as it seemed like the best place I could find for now. Seemed that there are many that posted on this thread that are around my age.

Whats this all about? RED GREEN

or I should say Red OR Green as a choice for the theme color when we personally view these pages.

The default seems to be RED. I was poking around checking things out and found that I could change from the red to green.

I much prefer the green as it's easier on my eyes.

When younger I might of preferred the red.

So that is what this is about.

Do you like the RED or the GREEN theme?

I'm still fairly new so .....

Had a close friend (age 78 ) that retired last fall. It had just come to the point where he was getting a little forgetful, otherwise he's quite vital. I could tell from talking with him that he was uneasy about the change. It has worked out just fine.

We're all going through the changes from cradle to grave. Best thing to do is just roll with it ......Every stage in life is great in it's own way.

For a guy that's always lived live to the fullest .... there's still a lot of fun to be had yet !

You should have downsized a long time ago. It’s time for the kids (son) to buy YOU a car. If they are to lazy to continue the business they made there own beds.
