Team Building This Month! Need ideas.

I head one of our department's teams. This coming March we are going to have a team building in some posh resort. Three days and three nights. All expenses paid by our company, of course. I've been given free hand to do whatever I think is best for my team. I've been planning our schedule, trying to come up with good games and activities, etc.

Any recommendations, tips and advice on how I can give my team the best stress-free, fun and memorable team building of their lives? I'm also open to all suggestions when it comes to the games and activities? What do you think are good prizes and giveaways?

Booze, women, and Las Vegas. Got it?

Seriously, make it fun. Try to get people to not work, but have fun. I'd come up with some challenge that they all have to work together to solve, but depending on what the team does, that will determine what you do.

If it were E-Waste that they did, for example, I'd make everyone tear down a pile of computers. But, in some computers, there would be a card that would give the entire team a benefit.

Or, you could just go with booze, women, and Las Vegas!

All excellent ideas. I endorse strippers an Beer. Of course I mean wire stripper......

I'm available for all beverage consulting. Hobo is my jr vp in charge of Entertainment. Have your people contact ours an we can arrange a show that will require years of therapy to get over.

Seriously tho...I could assume your into ewaste, but I won't. So what kind of business that would help us give you more ideas. If ewaste..I like Matador's idea. Make it like one of those shows where ya got 3 teams, an they can get perks, prizes an stuff.

I'm adding on to Matador's idea..Take the pile of towers, each team gets the same amount. Same number of folks on each team. Then..hit them with challenges during it. Like some point..Just tell them they can only open things with their non-dominate hand, etc etc.

Watch an episode of Cutthroat Kitchen an do something liek that but with the towers. Make some sabatoges, fake money, an make it Cutthroat Computer Tower breakdown( I see this on a tv show, I want my cut ****it!)

    I dunno..just an idea.

Personaly...couple 30 packs, a grill, some good grilling meat.. = team building fun.

Not says team work like making sure your drunk team mates get back safe to their room.

I guess my "hookers and liquor" idea wasn't as original as I thought.

Where are you going? Here in Sarasota we have fishing boats that will take groups out to fish for the day.

The cutthroat idea could work, but you do have to tread a fine line. If it gets done way overboard, everyone will be trying to go after each other.

Executed more gently, it'll bring a friendly rivalry- and that's a good thing!

Who cares if it's an original idea. It sounds like a great one to me! Nothing beats teamwork like hiding from police, right?

My understanding is your to build a cohesive unit via retreat. So knowing that it would be a good idea to identify strengths and weaknesses for your own purposes so later on when your doing some OJT with your people you know what they need. In the army we had obstacle and team level courses with various materials (boards, drums, rope) that were all designed to force several people to work together for success.

For your purposes some light rock climbing, mud runs, even a treasure hunt of some kind would work great. I've also found riddles and such to work pretty good. Be creative.

And don't forget the marshmallows and drinking beer and farting around the camp fire. That has always been a musical favorite of mine. That is as long as there is a nice breeze.

Seems as a person gets older you enjoy cutting the cheese a bit more, as it can be a very relieving part of Life.

Sure can shake up a crowd. Some of my most humorous memories involve the passing of wind.

I knew it was cold out when I could see the dogs farting.

I was at a winter auction years back and it was COLD out but there was no wind to speak of. That is until I saw some steam coming out of someones back end.

Please excuse me if I'm out of place. Can't help it as I do Live in my own little world it seems. pull my finger

With my Living in a Time Machine with ssslooow dial up as it's what it is.

I find that not being able to watch YouTube videos because of my slow connection is a bummer at times.

I read about Moose and scrapper girl videos where they show you just HOW to take things apart and such.

When you Live in the middle of no where it does have it's down side.

p.s. I understand that there are ways that I can get a faster internet connection speed.
Problem is that the cost for me is out of the question at this time as I figure that I already spend enough for a old land-line connection.
It works well enough for my basic needs. I look at it as it's better then a couple of tin cans with a string between them...

I figured he'd change the rules as he needed to fit his team. I used the show mainly cause I couldn't explain it without using the show as an example. lol.

    Anyhow all good ideas.

High Speed might be worth it. When we switched from dial up to high speed (same provider), our bill actually went down a couple of bucks.

And, trust me, the only usable tip in the Scrapper Girl videos is that sex sells.... something.

It's mostly a show with an attractive woman that features basic scrapping tips that aren't that helpful, and a bunch of transitions!

That's how far out of the YouTube loop I am. It was just a couple of the MANY names I have read about that do scrapping videos and other videos showing how to do casting of metals and such.

Where I Live I would require a dish set up and I have no other use for such a expense as I don't use the phone much or have a interest in movie channels.

I see it as what I have works well enough for the overall cost. If I required a need for faster internet connection then I would spend the money for it.

I use the computer for basic things mostly. I just view it as a fancy phone with pictures and as long as the pictures are not moving it seems to work well enough.

Couple of ideas Yesterday at work we kicked off the 'Beggin Strip' challenge/team building. Coworker offered $50 to anyone that could consume a whole beggin strip.

At Christmas we had a food drive and donated 1440lbs of food to a local food bank. You could divide your team in two and have a cooking/barbeque challenge to see who can really cook?

From a lot of the scrap videos I've seen on youtube...your not missing a lot. If it's not a pretty face telling the basics, its other competing to get the most subscribers. Subscribers = Sponsors = Money.

I feel the spirit is gone from a lot of them. Now it's like a I said above..all about the money, or fame.

Granted my standards could be higher then most when it comes to such videos. I ain't saying their all bad. Just most of them. LOL.

    Each to their own.
