    its good to have community...

Anybody want to beat up on Best Buy?? A friend of ours, a single mom with more sacrificial love than I’ll ever muster (has been foster parent to a good number of kids, has adopted several over time) was going to have a double mastectomy two Mondays ago and her washing machine had broken down. With 8 people in the family including 4 boys under 10, clothes pile up quickly. So she decided to buy a new machine at Best Buy the day before her surgery. Even spent extra coin on Geek Squad coverage.

4 full days later (last Thurs.) the new washer craps out. Calls are made and Best Buy and Whirlpool point fingers at each other, “not our problem” they each say. WP sends a tech out a couple days back. “Yep, it’s the mother board.” Now one would think, with everything so digital, the tech would have a spare MB in his truck. Nope, the model is too new, have to special order it (probably at least 10 days). Back at Best Buy, maybe the Geek Squad can be out in a couple of weeks or you’ll have to bring the machine back in to get it looked at any sooner.

Enter friend Brian M. He’s willing to take the machine in with his truck but decides to stop by the store first and try to shame Best Buy a bit. Brian probably handled it much more calmly than I would have because I have a short fuse for both incompetency and arrogance, especially when presented in the same package. Bottom line Best Buy replaced the machine. Bottom line we hauled the old machine up the stairs and the new one back down again. Bottom line it’s a good thing to own a solid hand cart along with a good cinch strap at the house that made things go a lot better. Good to have some strong young lads as well. Best Buy and all the big box stores should learn some sense of scale. But then again that might be too much to ask of most corporate America…

Thanks to you and Brian her family can wash clothes again. Good going. That's how things should work.

I almost gave up on corporations learning anything like that until last week. I sent my 9mm Ruger in to the factory because I broke the safety (it stuck and some idiot, me, tried to move it with a dowel and hammer and twisted the lever). They sent me a box and shipping label. I sent it in and 8 days later it came back fixed with new parts. FREE!!! They said the safetys had a recall on another issue and they would have replaced it anyway. I love Ruger more now.

Very cool!! I own several Rugers over the years. My Mk. II I've had over 30 years and the second Mini-14 probably 25...

Love the Mk II, never had one though. My mini 14 and GP100 357 are sweet but my first love is the Single Six 22 I got for my 18th birthday. People tell me that Ruger's service department cannot be beat and now I've seen it in action and believe it.

Wow, I have had recent experience with both companies. I had an Amana (whirlpool owns them) washer crap out after 1.5 years and got nowhere. Now I happily own a Samsung. Had a stupid user error (me) while cleaning my wife's Ruger .22 LITE and the took it back, fixed it no charge and had it back too us quick as could be. My next purchase is likely a Ruger now.

I have in the past run into a big issues that were not being handled well locally. So I post the issue to social media on the place I'm having an issue with. They reply very fast!
Both times my issue was addressed and fixed in just a few hours. This may not work for smaller places but the big box stores have teams that monitor social media just for this kind of thing.

Small print: Your results may very.

Rugers are generally a well built, reliable gun... gotta keep that image.
There is a 10/22 around here somewhere all beat up held together with tape lol, but still throws lead at the pests.

Best Buy used me to cover their a$$es earlier this week. I got a call to pick up a projection tv from a guy who said Best Buy referred him to me. I was very curious so I went and started asking him about the referral. He told me that the geek squad showed up with his new tv and refused to take the old one because of "liability issues" I don't think the geek squad likes stairs! I brought help but could have done it myself (it was a small one) and while there the client told me when he called and complained that he was told they would remove it, the Best Buy employee gave him my number! I had no idea I was an auxillary member of the geek squad!

Rog, I'm sorry to hear your friend is in the hospital and hope all goes well for her. That said, I'm surprised it was the board. My experience with their new washers has been the motors frying themselves and the fittings on the back stripping themselves. I don't blame Whirlpool or Best buy - I put blame on the companies who made these parts(Whirlpool doesn't make parts in-house).

That said, glad you got everything situated. I'd honestly put my 100% in a good used washer instead of a brand new one. The pair here in the house are going on 8 years without an issue. It's another example how companies are building parts cheaper so you have to replace it or buy a new one. Car mfgrs do it too, It's rediculas.

Why do you say they won't be around?

Whirlpool chooses who to buy their parts from and profits from the products they build...Best Buy then profits from selling these products making customer service both their responsibility.

I don't think my construction biz would have lasted more then two decades if when there was a warranty issue, I just said it's not my fault...I didn't grow that tree or build that window. I was the person they hired to build their project and it was up to me to make sure it was done right or fixed.

Best Buy got wounded when the recession hit. While quite a few of the big retailers (ie: Circuit City) when into bankruptcy B.B. struggled through. It just remains to be seen if they will survive.

You might Google " Best Buy Bankruptcy Rumors " for more of the story.

A lot of big box stores are going by by.

Thank the inability to adjust pricing to compete with internet sites an other places among many other things..

Change or get run over. I see Best Buy with a lot of tire marks on their backs in the future. They really do dislike change.

Sirscrapalot - Not a fan of Best Buy or Big box stores.
