cleaning the garage and watching a tornado move in real time

We went to church early this morning and so I'm working on my side of the garage so I can get my car into it. They're predicting rounds of severe storms this afternoon even though its fairly cool out (don't know where the energy for the storms is coming from).

Our local tv stations really get into tracking violent storms, some folks think a little too much. Doppler radar with a map backing is a fantastic tool as a person can watch things move and where they're going. While I've been working on the garage, have been watching a tornado move mostly north towards Mitchell, SD. If any of you have been on I-90 and stopped at Cabela's at Mitchell, this is where I'm talking about. The storm isn't moving that fast (about 30 mph) so people have lots of warning. Luckily, tornadoes tend to be fairly narrow. A big one can be over a mile wide. Just don't want to be in that mile along the twister's path...

Yeah, can feel it warming up here. TV weather is showing a 10-15 degree difference in temps between us and areas further west where these storms are firing. Could be an interesting afternoon...

That first storm ended up being the most violent one. This afternoon mostly ended up being "trains" of heavy rain. A few minutes ago I heard my sump pump go off. Considering how dry we've been, there must have been a lot of rain. A few farm fields coming back from my MiL's have standing/running water through them. Those areas probably washed out. Either replant or collect crop insurance on those areas of decrease yield...

Spring cold-warm front collisions. We all have basements here although mine is "garden leveL" which means the backside of the foundation is only in about 4 feet. We get tornadoes but its not like OK City area. I've lived here all my life (50+ years) and never really had one that close. But you only have to lose once...

I feel for the lady down in OKC that went to her storm cellar and then the rain started and flooded her cellar and she died before she could be rescued. Talk about bad luck,,,

Woman dies by drowning in her storm shelter during Oklahoma City deluge
