Show us the way for the good of the church…really!

I suggested to my church group five years ago about doing a recycling drive but everyone thought that it was not a good idea and wouldn't make any money. A week ago a member of my church group called me to come in and talk to him about a scrap drive that was going to happen on May 9th. He wanted me to come in and give my expertise on helping them make as much money as possible for "the church". I was irritated, because I know the head of this project has been scrapping on his own, but I was curious to see what there approach was for this drive. I went to an old friends house who was in charge of the scrap drive. I gave him a few pointers and avoided a lot of other questions. He said I could come help during the collection to help load and identify parts. He told me they collecting appliances, lawn mowers, copper and other metal. His wife came out to say hello and started talking with us about how the scrap drive was a great idea that they wanted to collecting metal and computers. Oh, really…he didn't say anything about computers… In his garage he had a small barrel of wires and low grade boards. He said he has been tinkering with computers and trying to figure out on how to get all the gold, platinum, palladium out. I kinda just spaced out after that.
Friday I called the guy to check what time to show up and he said that they really didn't need me. I had to go and observe. I showed up late when friend was at the scrap yard with a metal load of 1800lb. He had everything separated according to his knowledge. Cast aluminum, Aluminum, Cast iron, copper pieces and scrap shred all in one pile. I was really trying hard not to say anything, he had a magnet there but wasn't even using it. They had a box of misc. aluminum, copper and brass. I grabbed a couple of pieces and started examining…nope this isn't aluminum, this is paint wood. Door handle is brass color but made of steel. He took the box from me and said he would sort it later. He had a box of finger cards and routers as I was peaking in another box and he grabbed and put in his car. Told me not to worry about it. All in all they got a good size load for the day. He showed me other larger pieces in the back such as refrigerators, washer, stoves & air conditioners. He wanted to know how to take them apart and make the best money he could for "the Church". I told him get a screw driver and get to work, told him good luck and left.
