Yakult bottles

They must be #6 plastic I think... Is there a CRV on them? And they are small, going to take quite a few of them to make a pound!

Phil - Have you found any Yakult bottles? Yakult is a fermented milk product, like a yogurt drink, originated in Japan. They did open a plant in Orange county last year, the drink is very popular with both the oriental and hispanic communities. Good chance of you finding them, but I have never seen a "dairy type" CRV product, all milk type drinks have always been non-CRV. Was this a "posted" price or did someone actually quote you that price? I ask that, because I know of one yard that list prices for all plastics (1-7), even though they only buy 1 & 2.

Make sure it is labled CA CRV or CA cash refund on the container, by law the type of plastic has to on the containers as well. That $5.53 would is a good price, probabally need 100+ bottle to make a pound and honestly I never seen it before (lot I havn't seen). The only CRV categories I'm familar with: Aluminum cans, plastic #1 PET or PETE, plastic #2 HDPE (water bottles 1 & 5 gal.), glass sorted by color (clear, brown green/blue), and Bi-metal (coco water). Those five categories I collect and sell all of the time.

Let us know how this turns out for you and I'll check with my CRV buyer as well.

Better price than Mother Boards! LOL These are so small and light it would seem better to turn them in for the $.05 each verses the $ per pound I think?!?

Hobo - Yes we can but rates are way down since Calrecycle (state agency) made a policy change (2012?), that basically changed the incentives reimbursement rates paid to recycling centers versus recycling processors. So the purpose was to make the curbside program more cost effective. Hard to find a recycling center that will take 1-7 plastics unless you have a lot (1 ton). Some still collect it but for almost nothing. HDPE (milk jugs) are the easiest to sell. A processor gets paid incentives to promote the curbside programs $365.26 a ton for non-CRV HDPE. So now I just put all non-CRV plastics in recycle can and put in out on the curb.

Recycling centers are allowed to pay by weight as a matter of business efficiency. The Beverage Container Recycling Program establishes the minimum per-pound rates for each container type: aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal. Recycling centers pay the CRV to consumers for their redeemed beverage containers. In addition to the CRV, recyclers may also pay a scrap value, which fluctuates according to current demand for the recycled material. Consumers also have the option of being paid on a per-container basis if they bring in 50 or fewer CRV containers of each material type. Recycling centers are required to comply with this request.
