    I Feel Burnt

I was browsing a blog I follow and came across this article. Now, my impression has always been that electronics exported from here in the states went to a small village in China where the inhabitants used harsh chemicals to burn off electronics for the cartels. It's rather the reverse according to the article and I once again feel burned by the media. CBS who's been the leader in news was the one that first reported that this village was our dumping ground for electronics which is what got me into scrapping in the first place - now to read about it being the opposite, I feel I've been severely let down. Anyone else agree or am I the only one?

Welcome to reality. Many media outlets don't report the truth, but rather report what the politicians and big business want you to hear.

yes, it is all about media manipulation by a small number of companies. ANYTHING sensational is "news"....and it can't be sensational with out a bit of puffery (stretching of the truth)....Brina Williams anyone??

many of these places are not what they seem...3rd world countries (and admittedly, I have never been to a 3rd world...but have seen a number of pretty poor ones) normal living is so FAR out of most of our experience, it can SEEM to be these hyper inflated, BS stories.

We send I can't tell you how many tons of clothes (stuff no one will wear here) over there for large profits....take a look at any of the "clothes drop off" companies...anything they cannot resell here, gets shipped out over there.

Gotta love the media bullSH%^ING you.
PROFIT is made when you BUY/ACQUIRE NOT when you sell

    Not meant to bash you!

Many politicians and big businesses purposely report inaccurate or incomplete information for the gain of a few.

Oh I know, still in a bit of sticker-shock because this one article has changed my perception of exporting electronics to places like China.

I worked with a clothing recycler for a couple of years. A lot of his clothing exports are to India and Africa. It's not all poor rags that go over there. Heck, half my wardrobe came from his recycling center. You'd be amazed what people will throw out....

I am no longer amazed by what people will just throw away; I remain dumbfounded by people's willingness to pi$$ away their hard earned money on retail pricing and fast food though.

They will be pissing away more money pretty soon if they live in new york. Fast food workers are getting their minimum wage raised to $15. NYC over a 2 year period and I believe 4 years for the rest of the state. What do you think a whopper will cost now?

I had Taco Bell today for lunch for the first time in a long while, maybe 2nd time in 2-3 years. Wasn't impressed. For fast-food, I think Taco John's is much better. Still, I try not to make it a habit...

I don't eat out much, but for fast food, Taco Johns is far and away my favorite. Since they're based in Cheyenne, they have restaurants all over the state. I seriously feel sick after McDonalds- Hardees makes a better burger, but there aren't too many, and to put it nicely, Hobo would approve of their commercials!

I much prefer the real thing, though. I think I can make a better taco or burger than the fast food places do.... for less money.

Probably won't go down that way as most stores are owned by individual franchisees and these owners are responsible for costs.

It'll never work that way. They'll raise the minimum wage in a lot more places. $15 an hour to flip burgers out here would be pure insanity! Truck drivers make less than that out here. Remember, it's not what you make, you need to factor in cost of living.

Now, to avoid being political, I give you:

I don't know about Hobo, but I now have the strange desire to make hamburgers for dinner. Well, I guess the marketing sort of worked!
