    -A HEADS UP FOR all:

    THE TALE OF THREE LETTERS.

Back in the early 80s I was about to take over the truck sales dept. at Doenges bros. Ford in Tulsa Ok. and was told this story by Ed Vowels who had been the truck manager for decades.

In the safe you will find 3 letters marked 1,2,3, if you run into trouble and are about to be fired, go get letter #1 and do as it says. it will save your job. On the second occasion #2 and so on.

I saw the letters every time I opened the safe but never gave it a thought until, one day several months later the Gen manager came to me and said mike we are going to have to let you go, your department just isn't producing what it should be.

I was beside myself end just didn't know what to do when I remembered Ed's words and the letters. I went to the safe and took out letter # one. it read as follows:
Blame all the faults on me. T he sales staff was trained by me in the old ways of selling and this is a new world and new market.

I threw away the letter and went to the gen mgr. and told him almost the exact words and fired most of the long time sales staff, The G mag. gave me a six mo. reprieve to turn things around

The crises as over just like magic . Six months later the GM came to me again to fire me . I told him I would have the guaranteed solution the next day.

I went to the safe and opened letter #2 It read Mike tell the gm the finance dept is not doing his job and is kicking out to many deals, it is his fault not yours. So he fired the f&i mg not me.

About 2 years later once again the GM called me up to a meeting with the Board and they told me, unless I had some new Ideas to boost sales I would be fired!

With a a smug attitude I went to my office and opened the safe to get letter #three, knowing , with self assured ,smug confidence my problems would be solved.

Up on opening letter #3, this is what it read:

    Dear Mike:
Wright 3 letters your about to be fired!

The Above story is taught in many top training courses and top Business universities today including Harvard. Yale, Wharton. Att (Bell) and IBM. and many others. one reason we are failing as a corporate nation in my opinion are. Our "leaders" are blame the other guy ethologists. and,, will not accept responsibility for their own actions
    .
Its time WE, each of us must step up and be real leaders and as such take responsibility for our own actions, successes we must share with those who helped make them so. The failures are ours alone, WE are the leaders.

This is exactly it Oldude. Everyone is, to a certain extent, blaming things that are their own fault on others.

A little of this is to be expected in my opinion just because of the odd situation. Many a time have I been at fault because I didn't communicate something clearly enough and something else got screwed up. My initial response is always, "If it was unclear you should've asked me again," but it's also my fault for not clearly communicating the situation in the first place

The problem lies in the fact that so many people in today's society blame everything they possibly can on someone else. I had a boy come into work late for the third time this month this very morning and his response was "Well, you know, my friends made me stay out late last night and It's really their fault I didn't wake up." Fired. On the spot. I've no patience for anyone consistently unwilling to accept something is their fault.

Eco, thanks for the analogy and lesson. I do have a question on this but for a different purpose... I was wondering if these posts you write on occasion are helping you with the SEO for your website (if you have one). I'm thinking of doing the same...similar to blog posting. Just wondering if you are noticing an uptick in traffic. Thanks!

shendog: I am old school, cyber challenged and don;t have a web sight, I do have a blog sight or, did have, it is still up but it is very difficult for me even to type these short blogs. I no longer have a reason to increase traffic. my business is basically winding down. I am 72 and in bad shape (I was an active 40 at 71 then one day a few months ago I woke up 90. It turns out I have a deteriorating bone despise that is destroying my spine day by day.

I write to give others the benefits of lessons learned over 60 years, and people can take them or leave them. I have written and published 2 books "Complete Kiln Repair" and "30 years on the road" a treatis on vending in Fairs, craft shows etc. with a few stories about midway life as an owner and the carnies that work in one of the largest and most well known shows in the country.

MY political view comes from the changes I've witnessed in government and the people over 70 years, this is not the America I grew up in. Is that good or bad? We will soon find out in my opinion. President Reagan talked about trickle down prosperity for the last 30/40 years we have had trickle down poverty(my opinion) and as Roosevelt said "Nothing in government happens by Accident." (opinion).

Does a blog or web site increase traffic It can if done for that purpose and done right. The best advice I can share is "prepare for the worst and hope for the best and you will never be disappointed". MCW

To answer your question, yes...blogging can help the SEO on a website, provided it is linked in some form i guess. My internet guy suggests I blog or post actively to expand the reach of my site, so was curious if your posts on here were doing that function. Obviously, without a website you will never know

Thanks for sharing - I've heard this story many times by managers and co-managers that looked at the letters deeper then face value.
