t00nces - It is a real cool picture, I'll get my mind out of the gutter (again) and talk about the other type of "missiles". I don't know if you saw this but last week the Air Force launched a Minute Man III. Here is a little info and a (little) picture too:

A team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen from the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a test reentry vehicle from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., Oct. 21, 2015. The ICBM's reentry vehicle, which contained a telemetry package used for operational testing, traveled approximately 4,200 miles to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Test launches verify the accuracy and reliability of the ICBM weapon system, providing valuable data to ensure a continued safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent.



The picture you have posted, I think is also of a missile launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base. I flew many missions from there in the early 80's. So it's been awhile, but that looks like that part of the California coast as I remember it. Thank You for this post, I think it's a good thread for all of our "viewing" pleasures!

Edited: I made this late last night, so I didn't see your updated information about that picture. So it's a space shuttle and the "Florida" coast. So much for my memories, I guess all coast look about the same from 35,000 feet!
