My cellular package was costing me $145.00 a month, half my grocery bill.

Voip.ms cost me $1.00 a month for my number then $0.008 a minute on phone calls world wide, I get a free fax number and SMS, voice messages emailed to me as wav files.

I can use a PC app on my Linux OS laptop for phone and SMS or on my smartphone, oh yea I tossed the simm card and use wifi instead. Without the simm card my battery will last two days before charging.



Questions I'm here to help, no question this thread will die of natural causes.

All I can get where I live(besides dialup) is satellite internet and there is a monthly bandwidth limit. How well will that setup work for me do you think? Will it work with the SIM card and smart phone? Would I be able to get internet without wifi? Sorry for all the questions. I always hear of other people using setups like this and it never works for my needs. Thanks in advance!

Asstra voip phone tested on satellite internet worked with slight delay, which was very annoying.

Voip is an acronym for Voice over internet protocol, the voice packets are sent via the internet.

The Asstra telephone was configured DHCP, I could take the phone anywhere there was a modem and plug it in the phone would acquire an IP number to enable service. Voice packets are small and do not require high speed internet.

Using the voip.ms app on your cellular phone is not going to use a lot of data.

At at first when you get a voip.ms account some countries by default will be blocked, after you email a picture such as a drivers license with the same address you used for the account they will unblock counties previously not available to you. Not sure about US protocol on which countries are black listed.

I have lent my phone to friends who have made calls to the Philippines and Trinidad, I myself have made calls to the UK. Had I used my cell phone the cost would have been through the roof whereas using voip.ms those calls were billed out at $0.01 cents a minute at 6 second increments.

For those of you using pre-paid calling cards with only 4 or five minutes left on them just toss the card because you may experience a disconnection during the call when the funds run out. With voip.ms if you have $20.00 in your account the only monthly fee would be for minutes used and the number. Your only billed for the calls you make, if the person your calling is a voip.ms customer the call is free
plus all 1 800 numbers.

With voip.ms you can have a 1-800 number good for USA or USA/Canada or International, the per minute cost is a bit more.

Regarding your choice of telephone number the locations are numerious, for instance you could have a virtual office in Brazil or Australia with out leaving home.

If anyone here would like to make a call to a foreign country email me your tele number which can be a cell or land line. Then I will set you up on a callback.

I will obtain a local number so there is no long distance charge to you, then you call that number you will get a busy signal hang up and the callback will ring you back with a dial tone - make your call.

Yes voip works from digital network, problem is this service usually is supplied by your cellular provider, as long as the cell phone is turned on you will receive your voip incoming via your choice of app. From your digital network or WIFI.

I also have the zoiper soft phone installed on my wifi capable Samsung camera so now my camera has also become a telephone.

A PBX is a great project for older hardware. Linux can be made much more secure than a Windows machine. Ubuntu is graphics-heavy, but an old Pentium IV can run Xubuntu pretty smoothly.
