    Skagit Tripple Drum Logging Winch.

This wionch is skid mounted, they moved it from location via winching.

There are three drums on the winch, the narrow drum on the side holds the straw line which is a light cable the rigger is able to easily haul by hand into the bush threading it through a block at the far end bringing the cable back to the winch where the straw line is now secured to the haul back cable.

Once the haul back has made the trip to and from the block located far away in the bush coming back to the winch the main line the heaviest cable on the winch the work horse is seured tot he haul back making a continuous loop. On the main line there could be anywhere from half a dozen chokers or more depending on the size of the timer their hauling back to the landing.

This type of winch was usually used by what was referred to as Gypo Outfits during the 1950's.

    Some more cool winches.

These are some very powerful Hydraulic powered winch on the opposing end to the hydraulic motor is a planetary gear reduction. I'm guessing these winches would have no problem pulling 40 ton possibly more.
