    Electrolysis on boat engine

I'm putting this small block Chevy back together for a neighbour on the marina, you could actually see the hydrogen bubbles being generated by the electrolysis. I can only imagine what is taking place inside the engine with those aluminum pistons.

The white crap at the base of the thermostat housing are bubbles, hydrogen from the reaction of dissimilar metals aka electrolysis.

The biggest culprit I learned today is being hooked up to shore power with out galvanic protection. Shore power connects you to every boat in the marina those having poor anode protection will eat those from your boat and others. Also explains why my shore power breaker trips constantly.

Anyone want to buy a boat cheap.
