I'm talking about the ones, who get in line, on the phone, an continue that call while trying to place an order, pay for stuff, etc. That's just rude. It's rude to the employee an the people behind you. It may be important to someone else to hear someone yik yak about their latest STD, Boy/Girlfriend, Diseases, Bathroom movement, or lack thereof...etc. An yes..I've herd all that before while standing in line at Mcdonalds, Gas Stations, the grocery store, an more!

An then on top of that..they get mad if the clerk/person/whoever ignores them cause their on the phone. Don't know about the rest of you all but a lot of my stores here on the sandbar have signs that say..."We don't mind you using your cell phone, but when it's your turn, be ready or move to the side an finish your call".

Maybe I'm just getting old, I dunno. Simple things like lack of manners, an commonsense tend to make me question how exactly humanity came so far without their facebooks, tweeting, imaguring or whatever it is.

Oh well, this is why I live on a sandbar, in the ocean. :) I don't have to deal with it as much as I did on the mainland an in cities.

Very well said Patriot. Personally, I would prefer you to continue to post your beliefs, as the majority of us pretty much agree with them. I hold doors open pretty much out of habit, whether it is for a gal or guy, and here in the DFW area the vast majority of folks will acknowledge you with a thanks.

One of my sons has a smart phone but no computer so now he's on someones crap list because of his choice? Wow. All because someone didn't receive a thanks?

Yes, the button is nice but come on, am i supposed to ''thank'' every friggin OP and reply? Is someone counting how many times I've thanked others here? I didn't know this was a requirement or a contest. :-/

ETA: And I would never hit someone with a door on purpose just because they didn't offer a thanks. If someone doesn't have good manners its not my job to teach them to them with brutality.

I think what Patriot and others are trying to say is that it's not a requirement but if you post a question and get some really good advise from members the least you can do is thank them.

And I do! But now all I'm going to think about when I am here is if I've thanked enough people enough times!!! Is my count too low? Am I being graded? See what I'm saying?

No your count is not to low, you're not being graded and it certainly is not a contest.

If I post a question and get 20 replies, I don't feel obligated to thank everybody that responded. I only thank the ones that I feel actually helped me.

For some reason I've always looked for opportunities to hold a door for someone......particularly the handicapped, aged or someone carrying a baby or an arm full of something. Respect was instilled in me by my parents I guess.......as it was with many of you here on SMF. It hurts, but I feel sorry for those who won't thank others for holding the door. They probably have a tough life and will continue to.

With all the automatic doors on larger shopping centers, I get a kick out of stepping ahead of someone and saying "I'll get the door for you". Most of them note the humor and a few of them even say "Thanks". Haha.

I am sorry I offended you in so many ways. Usually it only takes one of my opinions to upset someone. The post was remind people that respect is a valuable asset. I was taught respect was like a bank account, the more you deposit the more you can withdraw.

As far as a smart phone being a higher priority than a computer, I would not make that choice because of the monthly on going costs. At the same time if I was right 51% of the time I would be a millionaire.

Doors in public places have door closure limitations for safety reasons, so slamming a door is not a common event. Please remember I was an educator and most classroom doors did not have safety closures. It was my job to teach life lessons, if they were not taught at home. You would not believe how a school environment could change by doing this a couple of times. A big thing in society right now is anti bullying programs. I believe teaching respect would solve the problem in less time. When respect was not expected in schools I knew was time to get out of education. At least my scrap does not talk back.

I love the thanks button. It allows me to show my appreciation to members that have shared their knowledge, and their time, to help fellow members.
But that's me. I know quite a few people that have difficulty saying thank-you. I have no idea why this is a problem for them. But I don't withhold my appreciation from them when they have helped me in someway.

Since I have been preaching respect and trying to teach it with this post, I thought I would share this story. Saw a man in Walmart today wearing a cap saying Vietnam Veteran. I said welcome home " vets will know what this means." He asked where I served and I admitted I did not serve, but as a military monkey I thought I had the right to say it "another thing vets will understand." This veteran was at least 10 years older than myself.

In the parking lot with two inches of snow he was behind me returning our shopping carts. He yelled at me and I stopped. He came up and said have a nice day and shoved his cart into mine and pushed the two to the cage. The thank you for his gesture was nothing compared to the debt I owe him for his service to the country. You might ask why I let him do this, the pride in his face was something I could not take away.

So where is this going, respect on the forum, in the community, and in schools has been discussed. Now I am asking you to show respect for our veterans. They are the reason we have this forum, our communities, and schools. I know there is a thread honoring our veterans, I am asking everyone to go there and thank each and everyone.

I remember a few years back I "got into it" with a member here because he posted a thread something like "What is your Thank Ratio" He was bored I think and we hashed it out, but I wasn't going to get into a "My thank count is larger than yours.. percentage wise" I said "That's what 15 year olds do on forums" These are the same kids that post 1 word thread responses to "up their post count"
I'm fairly certain we are a more "grown up forum" than that.

But I digress, I'm getting away from the main point of the OP's thread which is "Doesn't take but a second to give a "Thanks" if someone's knowledge assisted you or you learned something. Which IS something I agree with 100%

I take a commute train almost everyday. It happens a lot where someone will sit somewhere close, and then call people and talk loudly on the phone. Some people are polite and when they receive a call will get up and walk to a part of the train car, in the door area, where you cannot hear them. I feel sometimes as if the person making the call, and then looking around while they are talking loudly about their business are really hoping that they impress people around them. So, being who I am and not being able to keep my mouth shut I politely interrupt them and then tell them that although they might really believe their phone call is important, that I don't want to know about the new software program they are designing for ipads, or whatever else it might be. I point to the door and then tell them that if they really need to talk to whoever it is on the phone, that they should do so where others cannot hear them.

It's a policy on the train, specially in the car they keep dark in the mornings for people on a longer commute, for others not to talk on their phones in the seating area. The conductors are really good about pointing this fact out to people who rudely talk loudly on their phone in the seating areas.

It is simple, not required, not mandatory, nor needed. A polite, respectful gesture just a way to show you noticed and appreciated another members contribution.

I must admit I am one that has rarely if ever used the "thanks" button. this is due to me rarely being on a computer while reading. I use the app on my phone for simplicity since I read up when I got a few minutes here and there through the day. it does not mean I am ungreatful it just means I choose not to clutter or fill more space in what can become pages of dialog that people are reading and sometimes searching for a tidbit. a courtesy in my eyes as I have been there and seen how frustrating it can be to find a singe post in dozens.

so since it is somewhat on topic; for those I havent thanked yet, thankyou for your contributions.

I have attempted loading pages as desktop site vs mobile in past and most of them are either broken / missing parts or are so heavy for my slow speed they just arent worth it.

Having dabbled in web design I know it to be a common issue. Viewing something on a screen the size of a business card that was intended for a screen 8.5" or bigger is a headache. Theres a reason for making the mobile vs desk top sites. Mostly speed of loading, limiting to functions you have the ability to use vs clutter you cant, and lastly ease of use. If you got to scroll through the equivalent of 20-30 screens on a computer are you going to use the site long?

Just saying I use what I do understanding that its more limited in function. It is my choice that the gains out wieght the losses to use the app vs mobile or desktop.
