you got that right iScrap!!
you got that right iScrap!!
I was in the sewer / waterline business. Buried countless tons of cutoff ductile iron pipe, broken manhole covers etc. right in the sewer ditch - never to be seen by human eyes again.
Also! Forgive me if it was one of you, but I lived across the street from the high school. One early morning (about 4) I was woke up by a ruckuss in the dumpster. I called the cops assuming it was kids. What a jerk I was! I had no idea.
Burying stuff on the job reminds me of when I saw a local crew working on widening a bridge on the interstate. They had a pile of twisted I-beams. I was going to ask what they do with it and never got back to them. For all I know they haul it all to the dump.
I used to be a shipper/loader for a small wholesale dental warehouse in oregon. I cant recall how many dental chairs we took to the dump wieghing around 500 each plus ovens and other really hi tech dental eqipment. The sad part is I could take any of it if I wanted to.
I donated three cars, and abandoned an RV at a storage lot. I've tossed appliances and computers. sigh.
Now I don't let anyone I know throw anything away. I grabbed a power strip from my MIL's garbage today. Hey - copper and brass and a circuit board? Yes, please.
The dreaded buy. Like. ...I need that...been needing it for too long . Wish someone gave me one !
Then I bought it only for within a week I get one or more in . Ouch. I learned to will and wait. Usually works.
Especially tools lol. I almost never buy them . I find them. At count I got tool stashes. Way too many so I send them out. Need to do a flea market or auction . I do declare!
I have made lots of mistakes when i was very young in this sphere but not seems like i am not alone
have a look at list of things i could have scraped but just threw away in garbage
1. old geyser(not working)
2. 3 computer processors and memories
3. my mobile (xperia x8)
4. i pod
i dont remember rest , i could have scraped all of these things for $$$ to any scrap yard or any carbide scrap[/URL] dealer or your local recycle station but now i now what is need to be done what you have something broken.

For 15 years my brother and I repaired business phones and tossed everything that was broken or obsolete. Things like high grade telecom boards! I would guess $30K or more. But I am all better now!!!!!
Chris
I threw away one of those large Persian rugs , the nice ones I see selling for over 8 grand now . Wish I had a time machine but we live and learn . This was over 14 years ago so I'm over it .
Yes before I knew there was a "dirty" catagory for most metals if there was steel on it in with the steel it went...
I could cry knowing what I threw out - washer, hot water tank, push and riding mower, pots/pans, you name it I probably threw at least one of each away!
Scrapper, Scrap Yard Worker, Horse farm worker, Cooler Puller and just plain ''tired''
I think old dude is making things up-first he says he got 1500 bucks and the next post he says 1400 bucks.
Bullion. He's probably not making it up. I bet it was around 1450...cause I do that sometimes round up or round down... But I don't really know him or you. Just my opinion...
Cheers
DayV
I can tell you that if anyone makes stuff up on here, it sure as hell isn't old dude.
Computer scrapping whoops:
- early on I tossed old PCs - including motherboards and 286/386 processors because I couldn't imagine they had any value.
- I scrapped DDR RAM - I didn't know PartTimeScrapper here would buy some of it for well above scrap value
- I ripped out Cisco SFPs from fiber switches and threw them out (!!!!!!!!!) because they were the size of my little finger and looked useless. They sell for about $4000 new and several hundred used.
Lesson learned: READ THIS FORUM and look at eBay to see what EVERYTHING sells for first.
i cant recall anything of great value that i threw away
i do remember taking 2 shoe boxes with hard drives stacked in them to the scrap yard-when i first started scrapping
i sold them as steel
and i remember the guys at the yard took one look at those boxes & took them into a back room
i would have made at least 5 times the amount i got for its steel weight
and then the boards- which is another story
Here is an entire post of what I pitched into the dumpster http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/gener...y-e-waste.html
