    I just saw this, thanks to Pj for sending me a pm, as I've been on a leave of absence from the public side of the forum.

    First...my condolences to you Trudy. Mike, or Mech as many of us knew him as, was a good man, an someone I had a lot of respect for. I don't say that about many folks. Words can't express the amount of respect I had/have for him. He was always there to lend a hand to the new folks, an he had a knack for keeping some of us "rabble rousers" in line(mainly me..haha!). A true stand up fellow.

    I never got to meet Mike/Mech in person, but I did get to chat with him on here, an I got to know him, and for that...my life is better cause of it. He was one of the first to welcome me, he was one of the first to encourage my quotes and taglines, he was the first "staff" member on my friends list. I still remember his PM back lol'ing when I asked if he was allowed to be friends with us peasants.

    It's gonna be tough knowing I can't just PM Mech, or laugh when I see him post that Zapped tatter tot thread for the 1000th time. Or to know I won't get any more pm's asking me.."Wtf is up with the goats?", an yes..I will miss his seemingly magical way of producing a link to whatever you were looking for.

    I'd like to say more, but for once...words fail me. So...I'll let my quotes do the talking.

    You and I will meet again, When we're least expecting it, One day in some far off place, I will recognize your face, I won't say goodbye my friend, For you and I will meet again. - Tom Petty

    It's time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I'd much rather say hello. Hello to a new adventure. - Ernie Harwell

    Tell Mick I said hi, an I know you two will be sitting around the scrapyard up above keeping an eye on your flock.

    With much love, respect, and a mix of sadness tossed in.../salute to you Mike/Mech.

    R.I.P. Mike/Mech 1949 - 2016

    Edit: If you folks haven't visited the funeral home site, there is an Obituary for Mike/Mech.

    I can't possibly say how much he taught me directly and through past posts. He will be missed.

    I am so sorry for your loss. '16 is going to go down as a year of sorrow for my wife and me, and it looks like there is more than enough to go around. I hope you find your way back to peace quickly.

    Mike, SMF members learned or were sent in the "needed" direction because you were our "Mechanic", you always made sure we were going in a direction that served all of us well. You did what we needed and wanted, SMF ran as the best scrap metal website because we had a "Mechanic". You not only did what a mechanic does when you need to go, you did it the right way and you made things better. Better than before, as our "Mechanic" you not only fixed us, you made us better than we knew we could be!

    You will never be forgotten, for sure missed but never forgotten, so until we meet again. Mike the "Master Mechanic".

    It is truly a sad day for the scrap community losing the heartbeat of the forum. Mike had the patience and ability to help members, new and old, with the never-ending questions that are discussed.

    Thank you for your service to this great country and to the Scrap Metal Forum Mechanic688, may you rest in peace.

    I can't imagine what your going through right now Trudy but my thoughts and prayers are with you and I pray that you can be strong in this sad time.

    Mech is a household name. Even my elderly mother says, "Why don't you ask Mech?"
    I just read the news to her and she's crying almost harder than I am. She likes his kitty.

    Mrs. Mech, I am so sorry. My heart is breaking for you...and my prayers are for you.

    Trudy and the family- I'm saddened to hear of Mike's passing, although I know he had struggled recently with his health. I've interacted with a lot of great people on SMF during the 2 years I've been a member but M688 was at the top. I learned a lot from him and witnessed what a genuine leader he was in his posts. He may have chided people once in a while about not using the archives to look up an answer but was never mean about it and usually produced an answer anyways. His ability to use the search tool on the forum to find old threads pertaining to the topic at hand was amazing. SMF and the world will be a lesser place without him.

    There are some verses in First Corinthians (13:4-7) that are commonly used in weddings but I think could easily be used to describe Mike on this forum, and probably in his life outside of SMF.

    Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
    Does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
    Does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
    Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

    Mechanic 688, I hope to meet you in another place someday, not of this world. Until then, every time I break down a computer, I'll think about you a bit and smile. Until that time...

    I owe everything to this man. Mech was the only reason I hoined this Forum, and was the single most important connection I have ever made. I wish I would have mentioned it sooner. I cant imagine what he meant to the others. Hold your head high Trudy, and be proud that he represented your family in the absolute finest fashion. I will think of him always. He saved my entire career, like it was no big deal. R.I.P. MECH!!!
