I can't scrap because everyone's asleep, so 4 hours later....

Weeknights are a drag. Everyone's in bed by 8ish so I don't want to make noise which means scrapping in our attached garage is out of the question. So I'm sitting here wondering what I could do. I've been getting to know this new Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software, trying to build a portfolio of logos and banners for websites. These I would just give to SMF for free, or I could make them in anyway that SMF owners want, if they want to redo their logos or banners. Or, these could be given to members of different levels, for instance. (Imagine just the letters SMF in these styles to add under members avatars) Who knows, but I made these without even worrying about it. Just something to do on a slow night. Hope you like. Take a vote, let me know which one you guys like best.

Pretty cool stuff, have you tried Gimp a free image manipulation app.

I personally like the second one the best, but overall, all three are very cool. I don't have the Adobe program, so I don't get to do a lot of this kind of stuff. I think it is very ambitious of someone to donate time to offer up these banners!

I have GIMP 2.0 but don't use it. I personally like Inkscape (also a free Vector Editor) better because it allows me to make in depth changes to PDF's which I found invaluable while I was drawing commercial mechanical and plumbing systems with Autocad. Most drawings we recieved from the AE team were in PDF format. Both GIMP and Inkscape, however, fall well short of Illustrator's capabilities.

I run illustrator and photoshop exclusively...but YES the learning curve is pretty steep (well for some things). The best part is you have very granular control over things...you can REALLY change **** near anything. If you are doing photography LIGHTROOM is where it is at...miracles happen in that program (I have seen a dark night picture turned into a day picture in 15 min).

I also do graphic design on the side as well and have a portfolio to back it up (ie people have paid me for my work ). I am not an "artist" in that I cannot draw well...but I am a CHAMP at layout and can make stuff look pretty **** good generally.

Anyways, good 1st efforts Kane333...keep learning, it never ends with that stuff...youtube is a godsend and lynda.com has classes on TONS of software for a VERY small monthly fee...it is wotth it.

I have been getting into doing video editing with Adobe Premiere...a lot to learn with that program as well but hell once you learn it you can get alot of work done QUICK! I love how I can add muti video/audio streams and edit them into one video and no one would know that the video/audio where not from the same video/recording!!

Nice work. The font works well for #1, but I'm not crazy about that font in 2 and 3. I really like the depth of number 3 with that smoke. Plus the metallic effect would make that a winner in my book if the font was a bit thicker.

The closest font I found that worked with the original SMF font above appeared to be Calibri Bold Italic. I believe the effect and bevel for the 2nd and 3rd images makes the lettering appear to be thinner, although they are still a Bold Font, but I understand what your saying. The lettering does look a bit malnourished.
