If this was not an inside job with prior knowledge of what was in the pail bet the thief had a big surprise when he opened the pail.

Who would be dumb enough to ship 86 lbs of gold using regular freight over say Brinks who use armed guards.

Something very fishy about the shipment, was it insured and did the pail really contain gold.

I don't know how "fluffy" gold flake is, but I think buckets the size of which was stolen would weigh more than 86 lbs. My five gallon buckets of stripped copper wire or windings usually weigh 50 - 60 lbs.

Good thought Otto your absolutely right as gold has a specific gravity much greater than copper and your bang on with the copper weight per 5 gallon pail.

Be careful of clickbait headlines. Most likely the bucket contained 86 lbs of material which contained a percentage of gold flakes. Im sure the value was pulled out of thin air by using the total weight of the contents of the bucket from the current spot gold value. These third rate “news” sites will print anything for clicks. I could be wrong tho.
